ABCNews.com brought Mark Foley's boy-chasing to national attention, but it wasn't the first website to flog the story. That dubious honor belongs to StopSexPredators, a pseudo-vigilante blog filled with plagiarized, hastily-assembled posts, which no one seems to have heard of, visited, or linked to before last weekand whose operator has a suspiciously savvy grasp of the news cycle. In other words, a blog whose sole raison d'etre seems to have been to get the Foley ball rolling.
If its time/date stamps are to be trusted (like most free blogware, Blogger allows its users to backdate posts), the pervert-outing anony-site was set up on July 28 as a "clearing house for the public to report sex predators and as a resource for concerned citizens."
One early post, headlined The Sickening Six, naming and shaming the "kinds of sick people who hunt minors for their own sick purposes," is basically an amalgam of plagiarized entries from Crimelibrary, Wikipedia, and Answers.com. (Click here, here, and here, for examples.)
After running just six posts over the summer, the site picked up steam on September 21 when its author wrote, "the blog has been noticed and some shocking emails have been received!!!!" and posted four emails purportedly from "interns" outraged by the heretofore unmentioned Foley and his penchant for teenage boys.
(Of course, if these emails are legit, it means the "interns" somehow stumbled upon the blog, despite the fact that it had not yet been linked to by any other sites, and was virtually indetectible to Google, which ranks sites according to the number of incoming links.)
One "intern" wrote:
"...I came to Washington because I care about the future of America. I wanted to be around good and decent men like President George Bush. Instead, I feel like a piece of meat. The worst part of it for me is there appear to be plenty of my fellow interns who don't mind Foley's particular 'path to power.'"
Three days later, the blogger posted the now infamous "Emails from Congressman Foley to 16 Year Old Page!!!!", claiming they'd been sent in by a reader (despite the fact that they appeared to be scans of faxed printouts). Persons unknown then seeded the link to various political sitesincluding Wonkette, which promptly dismissed them as fakes. ABC, of course, took them more seriously.
Whoever promoted the story on DailyKos did so only 12 minutes after the fateful post went live at 11:06 a.m.:
Six minutes later, the same person, again writing under the handle WHinternNOW posted the following:
Back on Sept. 5, however, that very same WHinternNOW posted a suspiciously more informed-sounding take on the congressman:
Whoever is behind the blog hasn't responded to emails from Radar or any other outlets, and seems to have lost interest in the site.
"I'm thrilled that so many folks are looking at this simple blog...." the author wrote on October 2, the last day the site was updated. "If you have any ideas that I should post, please let me know. I'm happy to pass along information about the current situation, but would much prefer to keep marching toward the large goal or stopping sex predators. I don't think we'll see it in the Congress anytime soon, so let's focus our energy elsewhere."
What, leaving the party so soon?
The information regarding that blog website leads me to believe that SOMEbody wants very badly to plant the idea that Andrew Sullivan has something to do with this, when in fact I doubt that he does.
you da man
Fordham is busted....Crist...
lol
kinda nice...
Wonder who wrote the IMs and are they fake??
Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters
You could be right. THe RATS today have not seemed so shrill! They were a little quieter today, so maybe they are sensing this is about to blow up in their faces! I hope so!
Sweetie, it crushes me when you say hurtful things like that.
Sorry, LGF is also a very informative website.
Your choice. Lots of articles here originate there and lots of their articles come home to roost here.
I have always thought "more's Better!" perhaps you disagree.
I am a donator and Freep Fan for many years but I try not to limit my explorations.
No offense intended, apologize if some was taken
Best.
The dems have a shot now. cc is bad on civil rights and this gaydar stuff won't help.
It wouldn't surprise me but I need some info on this beyond speculation.
Honey pie....you know what I meant.
8214 SE 170th Portland, OR 97060 (the fake location of the fake author of the fake blog) is a non-existent address according to Google map.
Even adding every possible modifier after "170th" such as "Street," "Road," Avenue," etc still yields no authentic address.
Google Traffic shows zero traffic for StopSexPredators.com up to posting its Foley expose. Yet a mere 12 minutes later Daily Kos runs a report on the StopSexPredators.com posts, that no one else on earth has viewed up to that point. This is instantly followed by ABC News and the DNC issuing their coordinated "news report" and statement, respectively.
I leave it to you to do the math on this one.
"Wow, the rabid gay activist who is behind all this had an open letter on his on his blog, threatening Republican Senators with the exposure,"
This, IMO, is why gays should not be put in positions of public trust, or hold office. It invariably leads to something bad, usually blackmail and bribes to shut those up that might out them. McGreevey in NJ is the latest example. Their lifestyles are not good ones, many are alcoholics, many are druggies (or both), many like younger men, they get involved in male prostitution, many are into S&M, and even though there are some gays that live more moderate lifestyles, they are vastly outnumbered by those that participate in unsavory practices brought on by their homosexuality.
No wonder the Boy Scouts don't want any gays in their organization. The ones that have gotten into scouting get caught doing bad things with little boy scouts and the very reason they are banned from being in the Boy Scouts becomes self evident. Homosexuality is a deviancy. The percentage of homos in the population is from 1 to 3 percent. That means 97+ of the population is heterosexual. Homosexuality is NOT the norm, it is NOT normal, it is an aberration. It is not on a par with being heterosexual, it is not the normal basis for marriage (which is obvious as they don't procreate). Thus they push through the liberal courts normalization of their lifestyle to allow them to adopt children, and play "fake" family while their adopted children are introduced into the licentious gay lifestyle and to a belief that such a lifestyle is perfectly normal. It's not.
Homosexuality is not normal, nowhere near it. Yet it is being jammed down the throats of U.S. citizens by propaganda from liberal organizations, through the courts, and through Hollywood and the MSM. We are being guilt-tripped into believing that which is not a normal healthy lifestyle, really is normal, in spite of all the bad aspects of homosexuality that includes the spread of AIDS throughout the U.S., which affected first the homos and then made its way into the heterosexual population. No gays, there would have been no AIDS. Don't fall for the propaganda fellow U.S. citizens, homosexuality is as unhealthy a lifestyle as can be and should never be elevated to a position of equality with heterosexuality and marriage. It is a faux lifestyle.
My husband might disagree. ;)
I think ABC "broke" the story shortly after the E-mails were made aware of. Who broke the E-mail story is beyond me.
I've been mentioning this aspect for days, the result of this feeding frenzy is going to be a much more closeted life for politicians.
I saw something on NRO that made think about why McCain would be supporting Chaffee and trying to quell the investigation into the Foley affair. McCain has several supporters who his group (well at least two) who fall into the category of potential victims of the extortion. Think how it would look for McCain if it became known that the only reason that these two were supporting him was because they had been threatened by the rabid gay activist.
