I believe this Foley stuff was originally scheduled to come out maybe 1-2 weeks before the elections.
But, with the Pathway to 9/11, with Clinton having his tantrum, with the DOW poised (at the time) to set all time records, and the success of the Republicans to turn the focus to the War On Terror, ABC decided they needed to change the momentum right away and let the story out.

This is true!
I have it and I've done it.
To: ARW3A
Now that would make sense, given the fake-but-accurate M.O. of the Democrats.

You wrote, "I am still wondering how Foley's IM's were collected..."
Any number of ways, but I gather you're wondering how the press broke the story since Foley, although a creepy, evil, perverted piece of human garbage, would probably have a highly secured IM conduit. I just found out about this miserable business today, so it's just a guess, but I would imagine it was the plain old human factor: one of the boys he targeted showed one of Foley's messages to a friend or group of friends, or a parent discovered it, and word got out. One thing leads to another, and the press followed the trail. Those IMs weren't just Foley's messages, after all. Messages require two parties. They were sent to someone--from what I can glean from the news, several someones. Pedophiles are usually fairly canny when it comes to covering their tracks in this regard, but I think Foley believed his position would offer him protection and camouflage.
Besides, IM messages are data. Data doesn't disappear into the ether. Any system administrator worth his pay and with the proper server permissions can access IM logs. Democrat or Republican, if a techie found a pedophile, no matter how highly placed or powerful, he or she would probably want to expose the pedophile without risking repercussions, so a leak to the press would do the job. A US congressman is no one to mess with lightly.
You should get the idea. Information like this wants to be free, and can't remain hidden indefinitely.

Uh---we are concentrating on what Foley did. Some of us would like to see a little solid evidence in lieu of a confession from Foley. We'd also like to know why someone sat on unverified IMs for 3 years and allowed Foley to continue to hit on young men (if they are in fact legitimate). Foley ain't the only guilty party here.

ha anyone addressed the fact that the IMs were two-way conversations. Foley was not spamming ex-pages' email accounts. Anyone who did not want to communicate with him simply did not have to answer him. I think young dem operatve-wannabees were setting him up, knowing that he was a creep.

Anybody who is in any way,on any level, famous, powerful, rich, notorious, or possibly going to become such, should realize in this day and age people will keep any and all communications. It's easier than ever to save communications and it's easier than ever to prove who sent them.

The difference here is that nobody is defending Foley. And the big difference is that Republicans -- unlike Democrats -- have a sense of public shame . . . which is why Foley's @ss was out the door even before anyone knew why his @ss was out the door.

On the other hand, why would he resign immediately after he was confronted with them if they're bogus? That makes even less sense, so... I'm guessing it's not that.

I agree. What Foley did was wrong. But from the IMs, it sure looks like the page enjoyed it, and admitted he was getting turned on 'a little'.

Some Freepers are reminding me of Democrat activists there days. Rather then wanting a serious discussion of the facts of the issue they demand everyone just issue blanket condemnations of all Republicans because of Foley. Intresting to note Foley, who unlike the 56 Democrats currently facing ethic charges, has resigned and is under criminal investigation by the FBI.
These Donner Party "Conservatives" continually confuse wanting to investigate the background of how a news story that was in ABC's possesion in August 2006 did NOT get brought up until Oct 2006 with defending Foley. Only problem is NO Freeper has at any time defended Foley.
It seems the Donner Party Freepers are afraid that the facts on this story might blow back on the Democrats are are striving mightily to divert any serious discussion of the issues around the story off topic.

I am surprised I have seen no one mention the 900 FBI FILES!!!!! Bingo! Everyone who has been blackmailed in the last few years is someone who was in politics when the Clintons had access to FBI files. Foley was elected in '94, and they have undoubtedly been holding onto this type of story for the right time.
Wait til '08 if you want to see some dirt. I bet Hillary has a file on McCain a mile long, but she won't use any of it unless he is nominated. Whoever gets nominated better be real clean, and even then he can expect for stuff to be made up.
