New Foley Instant Messages; Had Internet Sex While Awaiting House Vote October 03, 2006 1:22 PM

Brian Ross and Maddy Sauer Report:

Former Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL) interrupted a vote on the floor of the House in 2003 to engage in Internet sex with a high school student who had served as a congressional page, according to new Internet instant messages provided to ABC News by former pages.

ABC News now has obtained 52 separate instant message exchanges, which former pages say were sent by Foley, using the screen name Maf54, to two different boys under the age of 18.

This message was dated April 2003, at approximately 7 p.m., according to the message time stamp.

As more is disclosed of the page's voluntary participation in internet sexual talk with a man old enough to be his father- we can understand why the parents wanted everything to be squelched.

You're getting the two confused. The parents of the young man, who was 17, and no longer in the Page program, who was getting E-MAILS from Foley knew that it WAS NOT sexual, it was just seemed creepy to the boy and to them, and they wanted it stopped.

I don't know anything about the boys who were receiving the Instant Messages (NOT the e-mails) which WERE of a sexual nature, except I keep seeing that he was 16 at the time he was getting the IMs, and that was back in 2003. The IMs are the ones that Hastert did NOT know about. He did know about the e-mails, and the media keeps blurring the two situations to make it look bad for Hastert and the Republican leadership.

Foley is disgrace and any Democrat or Republican who knew that he was communicating with young boys should resign because they are an embarrassment to the country.

This is like watching a train wreck. I want to look away, but.... No that isn't right, it is a tangled up mess. Between Soros and this gay group outing Republicans and Foley and the utter lack of morality of Demonrats in general.

I wish it was just as simple as Foley being a pervert. But, it appears it is Foley being a pervert and Demonrats knowing but holding on to the information for maximum damage. I don't know which is worse and don't care I think they should all seek treatment. Unfortunately it looks like no one will serve jail time.

If the Republicans in congress were smart they would have thrown Foley to the wolves the second they learned he was contacting these boys. They were not smart and now they are going to lose the house because of this. One would think that politicians would finally figure out that coverups always make the situation much worse than it was.

Trust me- you don't want to know.
I agree- the media is purposefully conflating everything into one jumbled mess.
They are not distinguishing between e mails and IMs.
They are not distinguishing between what seems to be an unsolicitated and perhaps inappropriate e mail to a page asking for a picture
and the more lewd and consensual IM exchanges between Foley and his very sexual young man.

I guess we should all rally 'round the pedophile on the White House lawn and hold hands because technically no laws were broken...

Would you just get over yourself? NO ONE is suggesting that Mark Foley get off scott free. Everyone has said that he should have resigned because what he did was WRONG, even though it may not have been illegal.

Hastert called for the investigation to find out if any laws have been broken. That was BEFORE the information about the Internet Sex during the House vote story broke. Hastert not only wanted to know about the IMs, he wanted to know who had released them to ABC, and he asked the AG to find out.

How exactly is ABC vetting the authenticity of these messages?

It doesn't matter to the MSMS: Fake, but accurate.

"IS ABC gay-bashing?"

Seems ABC is guilty of a hate crime.

No doubt about that. I have no sympathy for Foley. Foley Fag from Florida is fine for me. But this campaign from 2003 suddenly showing now is what has no credibility and needs to be challenged since these allegations are entirely and completely untested publicly.

I mean, who saves random conversations from 2003????!!!!? Where these like the most important IM's in some kids life and he had to save them like Monica saved the dress? That is just insanely suspicious.

Did anyone hear Dick Morris say that a female reporter knew that the minority leadership knew about this for months?!!! I wonder why that isn't breaking news? /sarcasm

I guess the media only gives the people what they want us to know! They are kind of selective with their 'news' according to their agenda (which they claim they don't have).

This is just wrong and indefensible and has nothing to do with dems or repubs - Foley should be in jail.

He should be in jail for "words"? If so, every citizen demanding the President be assassinated should also be in jail, right? Should Henry Reid be in jail for "killing the Patriot Act"?

How far do you wanna go with this line of thinking?

Should posters on FR be jailed for calling certain Democrats... NAMES? Posting icky pictures?

Again, beware the slippery slope.

Look - email comes onto email servers and into users' accounts at all moments of the day. At some point(s) during any given 24 hours, a backup is made of the system (most don't use continuous backup). It is (usually) a snapshot in time. If the user stores their copy of the emails on the server, their entire email account will be backed up by the ISP, day after day. The backup medium is stored for some period of time, after which it is reused and overwriten.

So yes, there is a period of time during which the media is cycling thru the backup rotation scheme where multiple days or weeks of data are available.

You sure sound like a seminar poster. (And it doesn't help that you signed up in April of this year.)

If the GOP had chased Foley out for having written an innocuous email the scandal would be that they are "homophobes."

Go back and get better talking points.

Who cares?

All of us should. Our country and world would probably be in different and much better shape today if he had paid attention to what he was elected to do and not been distracted. Indifference could destroy our nation yet.

"soliciting sex with underage boys is a crime.
Having sex with minors is a crime.
providing alcohol to minors is a crime.
Sodomy alone is still a crime in most places.
Being this sick, twisted and stupid should be a crime..."

As far as we know Foley did none of those things.

So what is your point exactly? Except to spread disinformation.
