Pardon me, but I smell something very peculiar in the way we have learned of the disgrace of Rep. Mark Foley.
The email scandal which led to the resignation of the Republican Congressman is reverberating throughout the capital and the nation, as Democrats attempt to capitalize on bad news for Republicans. The seamiest of the released emails, which Foley has not denied, are right up there with Rhodes Scholar and Illinois Democratic Congressman Mel Reynolds taped phone conversations lusting for 15 year old Catholic school girls in their uniforms

Someone must have something on him.
the Real fifi:
Clarice Feldman, author of the article you posted has very interesting comments on this BLOG:

Unfortunately, I did... AND the ABC news website with the IM conversations. The issue isn't sex... this is about a crime involving minors.
Hastert has an precedent for putting protection of House members above the concerns of the American public. Earlier this year he protested the Feds searching the office of a corrupt Democratic Rep. Jefferson from Louisiana.. as if this was HIS personal domain rather than OUR House.
In the age of Internet, NOTHING is going to remain uncovered, particularly when it involves sex and pederasty.
BUMP that, Julie.
You're a treasure!
LOL! Did you forget the subtitle?
AND THASS.... OOOHKAY!
When Hastert was alerted...no one was charging " sex and pederasty"....
The parents thought the emails were 'overly friendly' but didn't want a public investigation.
Shimkus talked to Foley who was told to STOP all contact.
You need to stop bying the Dem spin & Soros org 'cover-up crap' and read what has been uncovered by FReepers & Clarice Feldman of American Thinker!
NO ONE is defending Foley but you are unjustly crucifying Hastert!
Wow... This article nails it to the wall.
It was a coordinated release, with "CREW" and "ABC" tag-teaming to time this release for maximum negative impact on Republicans. House leadership knew nothing of the IM's until friday and acted promptly once they did know. they knew only of tamer emails. the timing of the release by ABC was a 'setup'. these are *3 YEARS OLD* communications, someone had the info and held onto it.
"As soon as the ABC story ran, and organization called C.R.E.W., which said it had the original exchange which Hastert had heard of and the St Peterburg paper had seen, put them on their website .They said theyd earlier conveyed them to the FBI, were releasing them because of the ABC story, and asked for the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate the Republican leadership. It is abundantly clear to me that C.R.E.W. and ABC communicated and may have coordinated the release of this story."
Who is CREW?
"One target of Republican criticism is Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), the group that last year assisted former Rep. Chris Bell (D-Texas) in drafting an ethics complaint against DeLay, which resulted in an admonishment of DeLay from the ethics committee. At last weeks press conference, Melanie Sloan, CREWs executive director, said that DeLay should step down as majority leader.
From 1995 to 1998, CREWs Sloan served as minority counsel for the House Judiciary Committee under Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.). Before that, Sloan served as the nominations counsel on the Senate Judiciary Committee under Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.).
According to GOP research, Mark Penn, who had been a pollster for President Clinton, and Daniel Berger, a major Democratic donor, are on CREWs board. Spokeswoman Naomi Seligman declined several requests to reveal the membership of CREWs board, although she confirmed that Penn and Berger are members. Last year, Berger made a $100,000 contribution to America Coming Together (ACT), a 527 group that was dedicated to defeating Bush in the presidential election, according to politicalmoneyline.com, a website that tracks fundraising."
The artilce makes perfectly clear that Hastert and the leadership were concerned enough about the emails that they investigated further but *didnt find anything*.
They got assurances from Foley (oops) and had no further evidence that would warrant publicly disclosing, forcing resignation etc.
They were completely unaware of the IM, and even today there is no evidence nor even allegation of actual advances beyond what was in the IM messages. This doesnt go as far as what Gerry Studds, gay Democrat, did in 1980s, having sex with pages.
hindsight is 20/20, but I dont see how the leadership could have anticipated something that was beign kept in store for a campaign.
They would have been accused of bashing gays if they had further investigated on this flimsy evidence. It seems like a lot of them knew that Foley was gay. Plus the boy's parents did not want it pursued any further than to warn Foley.
I understand that D.C. has the legal age at 16 years. Maybe there is a good reason for that. Kind of convenient for those in power.
Maybe it's time for ALL of the gays in the House & Senate to be investigated. Who knows what IMs are being sent out from them to young men!!
The democRATS might get what they wish for.

I guess the only way the public will find out about this before the election is if it is forwarded to Fox & all the talk radio hosts!!
The RATS sure know how to play dirty and they need it slapped right back in their faces!!
According to the NRO, Woodward's book is not doing well at all.
I hope that's accurate.
Me too!
The ultimate insult will come when "Freezer Bag" Congressman Jefferson demands an immediate inquiry in why this homosexual pedophile was allowed to stay in office.
Here's a new spin: Is it true or not?
The artilce makes perfectly clear that Hastert and the leadership were concerned enough about the emails that they investigated further but *didnt find anything*.
According to everything I've seen, they didn't find anything because they didn't look. They asked Foley, he denied anything wrong, and they accepted that. I'll repeat from my first post: "Any administrator worth his salt would worry that there was more, and would check with current and past pages to see if there was a pattern of problem behavior. " If that was done, we've not heard about it. I'd be happy to hear that there was that sort of investigation.
They aren't "administrators". This isn't an office. These are the elected leaders of men and women elected to office by their constituents. They couldn't go further because the boy's parents said they wanted his privacy protected and would not allow further investigation. Thye just wanted the leaders to do what they could to persuade Foley to break off communications with their son. They did that. He promised he would have no further contact with him or any other interns or pages .
