Proving the maxim yet again that to lose an election, an incumbent needs to be caught in bed with a dead woman or a live boy.

If only he had had the forethought to get a neck brace and leave his pen pal in a sunken automobile. Whyyyyy HECK, he could'a run for the Senate!

There are AOL IMs that are very incriminating.

He asked what the kid wanted for his birthday, and to send a photo.

Hell, I just wrote a nephew of mine and asked the same things.

You see the difference, right? In case you don't, it normal to offer presents to your own nephew but weird to offer them to a teenager who doesn't know you.

I must agree in part because it is so close to an election. It is suspect for the same reason. It would not be the first time a Republican was slandered and framed close to an election. Is there any proof the boy in question actually exists?

If it's true, the man deserves to lose his seat, and be disgraced. Hopefully the media has it wrong, and there are not enough people ignorant or stupid enough to vote in cut and run demons. I pray that is the case.

Meanwhile, you "old timers" post one bogus poll (that were proven wrong in 2004 and 2002) after another saying "NOT GOOD!!!!" "WE'RE IN TROUBLE!!!!", but it is somehow okay because of the sign-up date?

Yes.

You have to earn respect.

Barney Frank's gay lover can run a gay prostitution ring out of his basemen

While I agree that there is a double standard, remember that the issue here isn't just Foley's gayness, it's that he may be a child molestor. Nobody, to my knowledge, has linked Bawney to anything like that.

There is a difference between dropping out of a race for no reason because you are down in the polls, and dropping out because you just resigned your seat. Torricelli didn't resign, he was pushed out by the democrats.

Foley resigned. Of course, DeLay resigned as well, but that wasn't enough to get past the Texas law.

If they can't replace them, they can have a republican run hard to get people to vote for Pete Foley, after which because he won't serve they can have a special election.

Again, I made a poor assumption and did not read Foley's bio.

I can't believe the book release timing isn't coincidental. I hope it tanks too.

Please read post #91. It will help you understand why in this instance he had little choice but to quit.

The pattern that I see emerging is for Democrats to knock Republicans out of races after filing deadlines in order to run unopposed.

The US Supreme Court refused to step into the New Jersey case with Torricelli, calling it a state issue. Now we have Democrats forcing DeLay to stay on the ballot when he's not running, and presumably they'll do the same thing with Foley. We'll see what happens with Menendez in NJ.

At some point the Supreme Court will have to stop this tactic.

The fact that he was born and raised in MA, is not exactly in his favor!

The e-mail snippets are not in the least bit incriminating. Male friends say far worse to each other everyday. As for the idea that the other messages contain some dirty stuff, fine, let them prove it.

Even if the guy's gay or effeminate, as it sounds like he could be based on the way he writes, that doesn't make him a pedophile or a criminal.

At this point in time, I think people are reading far too much into this. If he's really a pedophile and not just someone who will get false accusations and possibly false legal charges thrown at him for political reasons, then yes, lock him away and let the Bubbas take care of him, but we should remember that sometimes small talk is just that, small talk.
