Did you read some of the other emails?

We need to be VERY CAREFUL in making a distinction between e-mail and Instant Messages.

The e-mail (or some e-mail or parts of the e-mails) is what the other Republicans knew about.

The IM's, as far as we know now, were kept from everyone.

That looks right. The site is really badly put together.

The interesting question would be how much he's spent already from the $1.639 million, but I doubt we find that out.

Otherwise, his campaign would have no money and he's got about a million dollars in former debts. Doubt that really matter though, right now.

If that is true Boerhner and Hastert may find themselves out of work.

If they knew these e-mails and IM's existed and did nothing they are complicit in anything that Foley did that was illegal.

When one pulls up his campaign filings, he has loaned himself only a measly $739,000. What a cheapskate!

Interesting sidenote: It would seem that Charlie Taylor in NC-11 gave himself $750,000 yesterday.

And Mike Erickson in OR-05 has given himself $949,000 this past month. I guess Hooley's going on the list!

That may well be about to change. Parents of pages and interns are going to be discussing this with their offspring, and more stories are going to come out. Some will be true, and some false, but they will come out.

It's a dirty little secret, and secrets want to be kept. Those who have been covering up stuff are going to be really scared right now, and may well stop covering up in the face of this.

Every time one of these sickening story comes out, it seems to include parents/family adults whom I just do not for the life of me understand. Lewinsky's father almost *proud* that his young daughter is servicing a much-older man, simply because he is the president. Chandra Levy's aunt who was simply delighted her niece was in love, having an affair with a married man, was going to go to all manner of lengths to assist, because the man involved was an MOC. Now the parents of this kid, the news story says MOC from LA didn't push because the parents were "comfortable" with the situation.

I don't get it -- we see stories DAILY on the news of kids being kidnapped, raped, the little boy in Arkansas who was tortured before being murdered, and yet Foley, who demonstrates all the tell-tale signs of pedophile, those emails are not sexually explicit, no, but they are so obvious as to intent. We hear about these outrages time and time again ... how can anyone say he is "comfortable" with the situation?? Again, I just don't get it.

I also have to question what in the heck was going through these boys minds to engage in the conversations.

Curiosity, perhaps confusion, who knows what they were thinking. The question is not the victims' state of mind but what is going on with the perpetrator, as in Mr. Foley -- a member of the GOP House of Representatives Leadership and someone who supposedly knows better and who should be able to differentiate between right and wrong. If Foley doesn't know these things then the other House leadership, Hastert and House Whip Roy Blunt included, sure as hell should.

I'll say it again, but there needs to be an investigation to see what Foley did with these boys, not just what he wrote to them in emails. If he did criminal acts with them, there will be Hell to Pay, politically, morally, and through the justice system. If it isn't covered up further than it already has been...

Charlie Taylor is actually annoying me. I literally see dozens of his ads every day. It is getting to the point of over kill. I don't think there is a person in his district who watches two hours of tv a day who hasn't seen them repeatedly. He should spend money on the ground or something. I think seeing the same ad 50 times really isn't that effective other than to allow people to read along with it.

New York is interesting... earlier in the year I was really worried about a lot of the NY Reps, but then in the last month or so I heard rumblings that the Dems were giving up on some of the seats. But now if the Reynolds poll turns out to be true, and the challenger has used 1.6 mil of his own.. could get iffy agian.

CREW Calls For House To Appoint Outside Counsel To Investigate Foley Page Scandal

9/30/2006 3:21:00 PM

To: National Desk

Contact: Naomi Seligman Steiner of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, 202-841-5096; http://www.citizensforethics.org

WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) today called upon the House of Representatives to appoint an outside counsel to investigate the House leadership's role in covering up Rep. Mark Foley's (R-FL) inappropriate email exchanges with a sixteen-year-old former House page.

Several members of the Republican leadership have now admitted to knowing for nearly a year that Rep. Foley engaged in email exchanges with a sixteen-year-old former House page. These members, including Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and Reps. Rodney Alexander (R-LA), John Shimkus (R-IL) and Tom Reynolds (R-NY) have all claimed that they failed to take action because the boy's parents did not want to pursue the matter. The decision not to investigate further left other House pages unprotected and vulnerable to a potential sexual predator.

Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert's (R-IL) decision to have Rep. Shimkus review the page system is particularly ludicrous, given that it was Rep. Shimkus who, despite having been made aware that the boy and his parents were concerned about Rep. Foley's emails, readily accepted Rep. Foley's explanation that he was merely mentoring the boy. Rep. Shimkus is the chairman of the House page board.

Although the matter allegedly was raised before the House page board, the failure to insulate pages from further contact with Rep. Foley and the failure to implement measures to protect the pages suggests that the leadership failed to take the matter seriously.

Because the House leadership has demonstrated a shocking lack of judgment in dealing with Rep. Foley's conduct, those in charge cannot now be trusted to examine the matter candidly. To ensure a thorough investigation of this sordid episode and the roles of everyone involved, it is imperative that the House immediately appoint an outside counsel. To that end, the chairman and the ranking member of the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct, Reps. Doc Hastings (R-WA) and Howard Berman (D-CA) respectively, should jointly choose an outside counsel with prosecutorial experience to get to the bottom of this sorry affair. It is the very least the House can do for the teenagers entrusted to its care.

Melanie Sloan, CREW's executive director, said today, "It is horrifying to learn that some members of Congress were more concerned with covering up a potentially embarrassing situation than with protecting the teenage pages." Sloan continued, "the American people, and particularly the parents of other pages, have a right to know if congressional leaders put politics above the safety of children."

Washington D.C. is a cesspool of perversion. It's time for legislation to prohibit ANYONE under 18 to work for any branch of government. I wonder how many of the Donkeyrats would support such legislation.

I watch TV an average of 20 minutes a day and I've probably seen those dismal ads a couple times a day myself.. I didn't know you live in Western North Carolina. Where at? I'm in Fairview myself.

Well the GOP candidate that ran when Dixon's seat opened up in LA upon his untimely demise, gave herself about a million bucks. She fell a bit short of winning. It was probably because she was soft on illegals.
