That's crazy. You're advocating a change in government policy that would lead to the end of the traditional American family and the end of our society as it is today. The rights of monagmous traditional marraige are embedded all though our legal statutes and if you start tearing those rights out of the statutes that would throw our legal system into chaos.

More paranoid ramblings from the Religious Right.

I don't see anyone advocating revoking the rights of heterosexual couples. More paranoia.

If the end of government-issued/recognized marriage licenses spelled the "end of the traditional Amreican family", it would only be because traditional American families reacted to the change by choosing to dismantle their own families. Somehow I doubt that would happen, but maybe you know better than I do, since you're probably a member of one of those families, and thus are in a position to know that it would disintegrate if the government stopped recognizing your marriage.

And exactly what legal statutes are you referring to? The only ones I can think of are those that allow the government to exercise different controls on your money depending on whether or not it deems you "married".

"lead to the end of the traditional American family and the end of our society as it is today."

I know what you mean! Look at how society has ended Argentina, Brazil, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Israel, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom!

Woe unto us!

"The rights of monogamous traditional marriage are embedded all through our legal statues ..."

The only "right" of married couples I can think of that wouldn't be covered by contract law if the government got out of the business of sanctioning marriages is the right to file a joint tax return. And for that "right", married couples generally pay a penalty!

I'd rather see the government get out of the marriage business than to see its sanction extended to a relationship other than that between one man and one woman.
