Good News for George Allen

September 27, 2006 Good News for George Allen Good news (for a change) for George Allen in his Virginia Senate race. In the first poll in a couple of weeks, a new poll by SurveyUSA for WUSA-TV Washington DC and WDBJ-TV Roanoke gives Allen a five-point lead, 49% - 44%. All things considered this has to be seen as good news for the Allen campaign given the recent news coverage. The poll was taken Sunday - Tuesday while the latest scuttlebutt over accusations that he used the N-word in the 1970's was hitting in the media. Each individual day's polling was all over the place so it is clear there is a tremendous amount of volatility in this race.

But given the news flow for Allen the past month, the fact that Webb has actually lost ground from SurveyUSA's poll taken August 18-20 is not great news for his ultimate prospects in November. Webb can't expect the news flow/press coverage to continue to be this favorable from his point of view from here until the election, especially with Allen having the money to get his message up on air to counter a Washington media that is overwhelmingly hostile to his candidacy. I don't think the Allen people can breath easy though, this is only one poll and I'll be interested to see where some more polling pegs this race

Sorry Coop,
You know I am only really educated on Pennsylvania. Some FREEPERS already set me straight.

Rumor has it that a former 3rd grade classmate of Allen's will go public with an accusation of Allen using the term "doody-head."

I thought the rumor was that Allen was dispensing cootie shots without a license.

I think Webb's sleazy campaign tactics will backfire on Webb, because everything else we know about Allen does not corroborate the bogus accusation that he's a rascist. He has such a friendly, relaxed personality that I can't imagine him being a true rascist towards anyone. His supporters can't imagine that either and they're not going to jump off his ship. I could see him using some racial slurs when he was a teenager or in college but not in a serious way, just like 90% of the young guys I knew back then. Those guys are now successful professionals and like me they laugh at the stupid, insensitive stuff we said back when we were teenagers. This is going to backfire on Webb because it's going to bring out a big turnout of Allen supporters who will vote for Allen as a way of counter-attacking against these incredibly sleazy campaign tactics by Webb. I say Allen wins by 5-10 points.

I say Allen wins by 5-10 points...probably closer to 5 than 10. Webb's trashy, unprofessional campaign tactics are already backfiring on Webb.

"Allen a five-point lead, 49% - 44%."

That's about where it's been for a while. I don't see it changing much right through election day.

Allen's a stud. I predict this kerfluffle will only serve to heighten his profile--in a positive way--in coming weeks.

Go George Go!

Definition of a political loser (n): one who has to resort to accusations of racism during his opponent's teenage years in a desperate attempt to catch up in a doomed campaign.
