Platte Canyon High School in Bailey was evacuated early Wednesday afternoon because of a hostage situation with a gunman, Park County emergency dispatchers said.
Dispatchers said there was at least one hostage.
The adjoining middle school was also evacuated.
Jan Howard, a secretary to the superintendent of Park County Schools, said the students were being taken to a safe location and only sheriff's deputies and fire officials were being allowed into the schools.
Authorities said U.S. Highway 285 was closed in Bailey because of the situation.
Jefferson County authorities said deputies, including the SWAT team and bomb squad, from their sheriff's office were on stand-by to assist if called by Park County authorities.
Just got home from work. Any more information?
Did you copy that stuff you found on MY SPACE?
Lots more from during the day today here:

I was out-of-pocket all day and got caught up there. I believe there is another FR thread, too, but not a lot of posts and now I can't find it.
The boy who acted like the hero who wanted to stay, Cassidy Grigg, and was on all the morning newsmag programs - GMA, Today, CBS - has admitted he lied and wasn't in the room. He just made up the story, whole cloth.
I just found that story a while ago, after someone mentioned it on that thread I just linked. His mother "told" on him. He had bragged the lie to his dad, who called the AP, lol. His mom knew different.
He hoaxed all the big shows, as well as fooling me - though I remarked he was way too casual in his re-telling and I thought he might still be in shock, lol.
I listened to the Sheriff's press conference today. He's MAD.
An assault rifle was found "down the road". .. (my term) and some "trash". They're checking to see if they were the freaks.
A hotel key. They located the hotel where he'd been staying. I was confused because he said something about his living in his car/hotel/having camping gear in the car.
Um. Freak asked a male student for a list of female students. Agents are following up.
CBI, ATF are working together with him.
Handed out pics to the press of Emily that the family gave the Sheriff, it was NOT the same one from the yearbook.
I HOPE I got this right...he listed www.parkco.us for a site to go to to support the community????
In August they had a drill on Active Shooter, entering the building, the faculty was there & was shown all of the police firearms.
Someone asked him a question regarding his handling of it, and he asked "What would YOU do in my position?".
Lots of support, nothing negative.
Emily & her brother were given cell phones for their 16th b/day and the last text message they have from Emily is "I love you guys". I do NOT NOT NOT think it was sent that day....but I could be wrong.
We have a new poster who seems to know lots of stuff...perhaps he/she can add more? (scroll up)
Thanks
Actually the Sheriff saved 5 out of 6 of them and the terrorist is dead. I know he helped but they took him out.

Student admits he lied to TV news shows
September 28, 2006
The 16-year-old student who told the Today Show this morning that he was in a Platte Canyon High School classroom when Duane Morrison took 6 students hostage yesterday made up the story, his mother said this afternoon.
Cassidy Grigg told the Today show this morning: "You could tell that he wanted the females. He tapped me on the shoulder and he told me to leave the room. I told him, "I don't want to leave."
But it never happened, according to his mother, Larina Grigg.
"Cassidy has never been dishonest in his life, but in this matter he wasnt truthful," she said Thursday afternoon. "He was not in the room with the kids. He wants to say hes sorry. I know and he knows he made a huge mistake. He lost one of his dear friends."
She said he "wanted to be a hero" but amid television crews scrambling to interview him about what he experienced, he "got caught up in the chaos." The mother said he "feels awful" about it and that's why he wanted to come forward and set the record straight. ..."
[snip][more classmates' reports at link]
Takes guts to admit you made a mistake. I doesn't look like his mom ratted on him but that he wanted to set things straight.
Wow, you see it much differently than I do. It was his mother doing all that talking, not Cassidy.
Do Emily Keyes's parents not have names? They are always just "The Family."
"I Love U Guys" Fund. Umm, OK. She has two dads?
I *think* I just read the dad's name in an article on the Denver Post.
I think. I'm so tired I'm not sure.
"You guys"....is generic.
From here....

Thanks.

(BTW, If you put a space after a URL, it automatically makes it a hot link on FR.)
OK - I don't think of "guys" as generic, but I guess teens do? And evidently her parents do. I know it's meaningful to them now, but it's kind of sloppy.
One picture of her is of a girl with long blonde hair and that one is reddish-brown hair.
They also called her twin brother Cassidy, but his name is Casey, according to everything else I've seen.
Bless her soul.
Cassidy was interviewed on KOA radio (biggest AM station in Denver) today. He told told the whole Denver metro area that he had made up the original story but he came to know that he could not live with the lie. He sounded very sincere. I am inclined to cut him some slack given the situation.
Using 'guys' as a generic term for a group of people might be more of where you grew up then how old you are. I am pushing 60 and have used 'guys' generically all my life. It is common usage west of Mississippi through the Rockies.
But if it makes you feel better about yourself to criticize a dead child's last message to her parents, feel free to consider us 'sloppy'.
