Platte Canyon High School in Bailey was evacuated early Wednesday afternoon because of a hostage situation with a gunman, Park County emergency dispatchers said.
Dispatchers said there was at least one hostage.
The adjoining middle school was also evacuated.
Jan Howard, a secretary to the superintendent of Park County Schools, said the students were being taken to a safe location and only sheriff's deputies and fire officials were being allowed into the schools.
Authorities said U.S. Highway 285 was closed in Bailey because of the situation.
Jefferson County authorities said deputies, including the SWAT team and bomb squad, from their sheriff's office were on stand-by to assist if called by Park County authorities.
Reporting that bomb went off, then the swat team went in.
The other female ok.
Other female hostage is ok!
"Other hostage is fine."
other feamle hostage reported ok.
Dead or alive?
Alive.
i wonder if SWAT got a shot off on the perp
"Perp got one shot off."
That SOB shot a little girl!
Word is that the other female hostage is not hurt. Wounded girl will be taken by flight-for-life to Denver Hospital.
That could have been a flash bang device from swat
Perp in custody.
He lived, the POS.
"I guess they're not letting that information out, because the spokewoman said she didn't know his name."
I heard a report earlier and they said that the gunman was a parent of a student at the school. If so, they most certainly know his name.
Good point.
ATF is saying he did have an explosive device which was detonated inside the school. At that point the SWAT Team went in, but the gunman was able to get one shot off.
Wounded student now in the air on the way to the hospital.
Lots of activity and confusion
May still be some issue inside the school according to Jeffco Sheriff's Dept. Spokeswoman Jacki Kelley...
Prayers up, damn perp lived.
Happy anti gunners will be jumping for cameras as we speak.
She also confirmed that the male described as being 30-50 year old has fired several shots inside the second floor classroom of the school.
Kelley reports the man is also armed with "some suspicious device," but cannot confirm that the man had made threats about the device. Jefferson County SWAT and bomb squad are on scene."
The man has yet to be identified but Kelley has stated "that the right people know who he is."
20 jurisdictions are involved in the standoff with several agencies responding without being requested...
