Platte Canyon High School in Bailey was evacuated early Wednesday afternoon because of a hostage situation with a gunman, Park County emergency dispatchers said.
Dispatchers said there was at least one hostage.
The adjoining middle school was also evacuated.
Jan Howard, a secretary to the superintendent of Park County Schools, said the students were being taken to a safe location and only sheriff's deputies and fire officials were being allowed into the schools.
Authorities said U.S. Highway 285 was closed in Bailey because of the situation.
Jefferson County authorities said deputies, including the SWAT team and bomb squad, from their sheriff's office were on stand-by to assist if called by Park County authorities.

Two days ago there was a 'white powder' evacuation in an Austin office building; that same day there were *two* in Denver. I'm watching CO real close right now.

FNS keeps referring to this as a "Mountain Retreat School". What the heck is that? It is a school located the mountains.

The sheriff's spokeswoman said that it's 2 high school girls, that they had some limited conversation with them, and they were not injured

FOX says the hostages are adults. Local Denver stations say the two young ladies are students.

Fox has mentioned tank about 10 times and said the tank's gun is pointed at the front door.
It is not a tank, it is an APC that will hold 6 swat members in the back and 2 in the front.
The APC does have an access hatch in the top but it is not open.

Wolf just reported on CNN that the two hostages are adults and that one is the gunmans wife and that it may be a domestic situation.

9News had an interview with a spokesperson -- the hostages are 2 female high school students. The man with the gun is an adult. The ATF and other numerous agencies are on the scene. They found a suspicious device. All middle school kids are evacuated and accounted for - Parents are asked to meet them at the Deer Creek Creek Elementary School. All High school students have been evacuated except the two female students who are the hostages. The HS Students will be bussed to the elementary school after the middle school students. There will be another press conference at 3:15 Denver Time...

I am also watching CO very closely right now. We bid on a property in Woodland Park, CO on Monday....about 60 miles from Bailey. Of course this could happen anywhere.

Then Wolf knows more than the Sheriff's Dept. spokeswoman. She just gave a press conference and said it was 2 high school girls.

They've got it totally wrong according to the spokesperson who gave a presser to 9News in Denver... I'm sorry I didn't catch the name of the woman they spoke with, but there will be another press conference at 3:15 Denver time. Details are available here:
