Mitt Romney lies about abortion
Red State ^

Posted on 09/27/2006 11:07:20 AM PDT by SDGOP

In his latest interview with RedState, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney responds to a question about his abortion position by saying that he's never adopted the label "pro-choice."

That's all well and good. Mitt Romney wants to be called pro-life. I'd like to be the King of all Londinium and wear a shiny hat.

But let's not kid ourselves: there is no substantive difference between the position labeled "pro-choice," declaring your support for "the right to choose." And that is something that Mitt Romney has done repeatedly over the course of his political career. To say otherwise is to tell a lie.

Risha and Hemingway's Ghost do not discuss what I wrote.

My post made no mention of Romney and the BIG DIG before the roof fell in two months ago.

It involved what he did not do AFTER the roof fell.

Those are the facts.

And here is another fact Risha and Hemingway's Ghost ignore.
Romney COULD have used his state troopers
to remove Fat Matt immediately but he did not.
Instead Romney allowed docs go missing, and perp-awards to be delivered
and yet Romney had authority per the State House.

You two should read both what is written, and what the record is,
before attacking me.

Also, Romney has totally abdicated regarding SOCIALIZED medicine of which
Massachusetts will have the Hillary-plan FIRST of all states.

Romney is a double-plus wus.

Let me ask you this: is your sole reason to be at this web site to trash any and all potential Republican nominees?

Becauset that's sure as hell what your posting history looks like.

I call you a troll.

"Paid-to-post posters on FR really suck."

How low will the McCain campaign go?

When he ran for office against kennedy he was pro choice, pro gay rights(wanted to be a leader on this issue, even moreso than kennedy), pro aff action, pro civil unions, pro quotas in the work place, pro gun control. On top of that he urinated on national republicans, the contract with america, reagan and bush.

Conservatives on the whole are more honest than liberals and we care more about electing honest people.

Talk about rose colored glasses . . .

Ask any non-Republican how honest they think GWB has been. And of course, his father so famously said "read my lips . . ."

You think conservatives are more honest because you're a conservative. You're rooting for your own team. Ask a liberal, and the liberal would say his politicians are more honest than the evil Republicans.

I think Romney should be more honest and say that he changed his mind about abortion

How can this even remotely be considered honest? He believed in legal abortion in this country for his entire political career. And now that he needs to run to the right, he's going to "change his mind" and we're supposed to believe that he honestly believes that abortion is murder now? Please.

So many targets so little time. McCain, Guiliani, Romney all in the cross hairs. Leaving the field to No body, No one, Mr. Marginal, and the Unheard of.

"So you would vote for a "bad" Mormon but not a "good" one?"

Clearing my throat now -- you do realize you called Mormons who didn't serve missions BAD and Mormons who did GOOD. That's as twisted and offensive as judging a Mormon not worthy of a vote because he/she served a mission.

Well perceived honesty is in the mind of the observer, for sure. But look what happened to Bush 41 after he broke his word about taxes. He got beat by Bubba and breaking his word was a major reason for that defeat, along with a sluggish economy caused by overly restrictive Fed policy.

"George Allen just lost a lot of support today. His comments about Webb regarding Tailhook show that Allen has really blown it, and is running scared.

Defending those of us who were at Tailhook might have been the one thing that Webb actually got right. Allen should NOT have gone after him on that.

Allen is done"

Agreed, all these Romney bashers better start taking a different look. The more I see and hear of Romney, the more I'm convinced he is going to be the conservative standard bearer for 2008.

not one who goes door-to-door trying to convert people.

So I guess when Jesus commanded his apostles to go two by two and preach his gospel he was doing so to deliberately annoy people?

Perhaps Christ just recognized that there were some who would accept his message and atonement and appreciate it for what it is.

If you can't see that it's your shortsightedness, not his lack of caring for your immortal soul.

Romney COULD have used the national guard and had them open up on Fat Matt with a .50 machine gun but he did not.

Fat Matt was protected before and after the roof fell in by his democrat friends in the Mass. Legislature. Again do a little research.

His health plan will end up saving the state of Mass. Millions of dollars, but that doesn't play well to the red meat rednecks down south, who don't trust anyone north of the mason dixon line.

>>>>People change there minds. Reagan did it, others will as well.

With Reagan, it was all about the historical context and content. Its about reaching a principled decision and sticking to your principles. Its not about changing your mind when it suits your fancy, or the changing political winds. The situation with Romney and his fluid position on the abortion issue is not the same set of circumstances and factors that highlighted the Reagan case.

Reagan clearly did not favor abortion on demand, personally or as a matter of public policy. He reluctantly signed a bill that relaxed an outright ban to allow for the exceptions of rape, incest, and to save the life or health of the mother, and he was correctly troubled by the "health" exception. He almost immediately labeled signing that bill a mistake.

As Fred Barnes wrote just after Reagan's death:

"Within a year after signing the abortion bill, Mr. Reagan told political writer Lou Cannon that he'd never have done so if he'd been more experienced in office. It was 'the only time as governor or president that Reagan acknowledged a mistake on major legislation,' Mr. Cannon writes in his new book, 'Governor Reagan: His Rise to Power.'"

"One does not suddenly recognize the humanity of the embryo after a lifetime of promotion and support for abortion law."

This was a further sentence from the article about Mitt Romney lying about his abortion views. I can truly see how someone can and does come to a pro-life stance after understanding just what embryonic stem cell experimentation is all about. I am willing to give Romney the benefit of getting enlightened about destroying tiny human lives. Read up on the Apostle Saul(Paul) When he got up on his horse he was a Christian killer. When God knocked him off his horse, he was a Christian. Change can happen in a twinkling of an eye. Let's hope Romney's change is real. Until we know for sure, it is not right to call him a liar.
