Well, we are half way there! Now the legislation needs to pass the Senate. This will be more difficult to do, so we continue to need all of the support we can get. The roll call is in from the House and its not good news for the ACLU! The bill, H.R. 2679, would deny legal fees and out-of-pocket expenses to be taken from taxpayers and given put into the pockets of groups like the ACLU when they successfully sue against references to God and religion in public settings, has passed by a vote of 244-173! This is good news, but it isn't the end of the battle. The legislation still needs to pass the Senate and for that to happen we will need all the support we can get. Keep contacting your Senators and let them know you support it!

Who's to say that the Dims will be around forever? In my opinion the once-great Democratic Party is committing suicide, through its behavior since the barking moonbats took over. If they're still around as a national party after 2010, it will be because some spineless Republicans allowed them to win, or otherwise threw them a line.
In Seminole County, Florida, where I lived until recently, the Dims are already a third party; since 1996 the typical local race has pitted a Republican against an Independent, or a Republican against a Libertarian.
Plenty of districts offer up only token Republican opposition to the Dim machine, after all.
You're dreaming if you think that there will ever be a day when Republicans are the only active political party. If the Democratic Party ceases to be, another left party will rise up in its place.
And whatever power you give the Republicans now to go after its opposition, you are also giving that lefty party in the future to come after us. Remember that.
You do realize, don't you, that all this bill does is slow the flow of tax dollars to this organization.
Of course I realize it. The proper response to them is tort reform.
I'm only concerned about how a Dim Congress will use this precedent to go after conservative organizations in the future. An overall tort reform can't be abused in the same way, because it doesn't go after specific organizations.
Neither does this, it is applied to everyone across the board including Conservative legal groups. It really doesn't bother the Conservative legal groups because they don't file Establishment Clause cases very often and feel if it is really worth filing one then they are willing to foot the costs to win it. Still doesn't change the fact that instead of real tort reform, we get this reform targeted at the tactics of one organization, opening a Pandora's box of additional federal legislation aimed at groups out of favor.
It's still a tactic that could be turned against us some day, and it's still not necessary if Congress would enact tort reform instead of playing these political games.
It doesn't stand a chance in the Senate, but this will make great campaign fodder. Who ever thought it up is a sharp strategist.
Don't rain on the parade man! If enough people speak up this can pass the Senate.
It would ne nice, but alas Collins, Snow, Chaffee, Specter, Warner et. al. are not known for listening to their mainstream Republican constituents.
It's still a great day. We now have most of the rats on record as voting for public funding of the ACLU.
I think that's true; as a national party, the Dhimmicrats will remain around for quite some time, but then, the late Gus Hall's party (for example) is still on the ballot because there are just enough active members to get them on there. I think that 2010 is optimistic, but that's the date of the next midterm elections, so you may be correct.
The fragmentation that is going on isn't just among the Dhimmicrats, but the Pubbies are accumulating the middle of the road voters, and the road ahead bends to the right. Let the leftists splinter, or better yet, gain control of the other party (which was never a homogeneous whole).

This is a huge victory for the American taxpayer; the ACLU will no longer be able to play their game of obtaining federal funding via the awarding of legal fees when they "win" cases.
If you would like them to continue receiving dollars from you, feel free to send the ACLU a donation. They still have the right to exist and to receive voluntary funding, but will no longer receive involuntary funding.
