Flood Made Britain An Island 'In 24 Hours'

Flood made Britain into an island 'in 24 hours'

By Tim Hall

(Filed: 25/09/2006)

Britain may have become an island after a Biblical-style flood split it from Europe in less than 24 hours, according to new geological research.

The flood would have taken place between 400,000 and 200,000 years ago, sweeping away hills between Britain and what is now France.

The theory could rewrite British prehistory, as current text-books teach that Britain - once a peninsula of continental Europe - split from the great land mass after a long process of erosion and rises in sea levels.

However, surveys of the Channel bed using new sonar techniques have revealed the remains of a huge valley, running south-west from the Strait of Dover.

The sonar survey, led by Sanjeev Gupta, from Imperial College, London, uncovered deep bowls, scour marks and piles of rubble on the sea bed that may have been caused by a torrent of water.

Dr Gupta said in a paper published at an academic conference: "In places, this valley is more than seven miles wide and 170 ft deep, with vertical sides. Its nearest geological parallels are found not on Earth but in the monumental flood terrains of the planet Mars.

"This suggests the valley was created by a catastrophic flood following the breaching of the Dover Strait and the sudden release of water from a giant lake to the north."

According to Dr Gupta's theory, France and Britain would have been linked by a high ridge of chalk hills, running roughly between Dover and Calais. To the north would have been a freshwater lake, fed by rivers, and deepened over thousands of years.

The lake, hundreds of feet above sea level, finally overflowed the chalk ridge and swept down towards the Atlantic. The water washed away the soft chalk hills and left the British Isles a separate land mass.

Dr Gupta's work is outlined in his book Homo Britannicus: the Incredible Story of Human Life in Britain, to be published next week.

So G-D created the kangas AFTER the flood?

Geological evidence for a big flood. Who'dathunkit? Biblical creationism would have predicted this. Not evolution.

Since the Theory of Evolution has absolutely nothing to say on the subject of the mechanics and statistical probabilities of flood events, I'd say you stumbled upon an accurate statement.

"I can easily see how the slow process of continental drift can separate land masses that were previously in contact, splitting two populations of marsupials so that they continue to evolve and produce different daughter marsupials on different land masses ages later. "

So just tell me when Austailia and the America's were in contact that they weren't divided by Africa? Where are the African Marsupials?

Ah, you said "Creation" when you meant "Creation Science". Biblical creation wouldn't predict a Flood because Biblical creation did not predict a Fall.

Unfortunately while Creation "Science" might predict a global flood, there is no evidence for such a thing.

This flood happened at least 200,000 years ago

What does this have to do with evolution?

Here's a graphic illustrating the alleged possition of Austrailia relative to the America's. Note that Austrailia is always on the other side of Africa from the America's.

So you believe plate tectonics are responsible for the distribution of marsupials, even though it was the Creationist, Antonio Snider, who in 1859 first espoused the idea, basing his beliefs on Gen 1:9-10 which implies there was one land mass.

There's only one scientific model that predicts evidence of huge water catastophes on a scale far larger than any we've experienced in recorded history. And it's not evolution, it's not even intelligent design, it's creation.

Not quite. Evolution has a history of sudden mass extinctions and genetic bottlenecks that strongly imply a huge catastrophe. Aquatic catastrophe isn't specified, but neither could it be ruled out.

True, but aquatic catastrophes have got to be the least suspected. Nobody expects a local flood to result in the extinction of an entire species.

The Toba supervolcano eruption of approx. 75,000 years ago is a suspect in causing a bottleneck in human genetics, where maybe only a few thousand humans were left alive in the world. The eruption would likely have disrupted normal weather patterns. The tectonic activity could well have caused tsunamis.

Heavy rain and flooding anybody?

75,000 years would be a extremely long time to pass down an oral tradition. But something that major... who knows?

Apparently, there is nothing unusual about finding evidence of massive water catastrophes. But that evidence wasn't predicted by geophyics, plate tectonics or geology. That was predicted by Creation.

What an absurd statemant! Creataionism predicts a single worldwide flood. There is no evidence for this. Since many of the "water catastrophes" are from the end a Ice Ages, and the Bible says nothing about Ice Ages, your assertion is ludicrous.

Creation says there was one global flood. Now that we are repeatedly finding evidence of these phenomenally huge water catastrophes, shouldn't we be looking a little closer at the timing?

Water catastrophies: dates all over the place.

Purported global flood: 2350 BC.

Does not compute.

"Purported global flood: 2350 BC."

The trees worldwide (tree rings) recorded an event at 2354BC (bronze age starts) and an impact event occured in Iraq 2200BC+-. . .may be the same event? (see link below)
