Boycott Citgo Gasoline Stations

Posted on 09/21/2006 9:32:56 AM PDT by Courdeleon02

I am calling on all of you to participate in the massive boycott of Citgo Gas Stations throughout this country. Citgo is completely owned by the government of Venezuala and as such is a big revenue producer for Hugo Chavez the Dictator of that nation. Michael Savage has called on internet bloggers across this nation to participate in the boycott and to get the word out to the American people. The MSM has not and will not report the association between Chavez and Citgo. This is a good way all of us can do something to fight back against this insane monster of man.

I passed 4 Citgo stations between 11:00 and 1:30 today and did not see one car pumping gas at any of them.

Citgo is in the process of cutting a bunch of stations in the US loose on Hugo's orders; this may or may not be what you're seeing.

Wow, someone on FR used the word "loose" properly. ;-)

CITGO Petroleum Corporation is recognized as a leading manufacturer, marketer and transporter of gasoline, jet turbine fuel, diesel fuel, heating oils, lubricants, refined waxes, petrochemicals, asphalt and petroleum-based industrial products.
The company's success is due in large part to CITGO's continued emphasis on its key priorities: safe worksites for employees, environmental stewardship and a commitment to long-term financial health through strategic growth and business diversity.

Headquartered in Houston, Texas, CITGO is owned by PDV America, Inc., an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA), the national oil company of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

Besides being on every navy base, almost every 7-11 in the Tidewater, VA area has Citgo pumps.

Should all these employees quit their jobs too.

Besides that fact that boycotts rarely work. It seems that we have a choice between buying gas from a commie that doesn't like us and people who finance terrorism. The commie hasn't actually acted on his hatred of us, other than to call Bush a few names. The terrorists have killed, and are still trying to kill, Americans.

I have to resort back to a lesson that my daughter has reminded me of, "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me." I'll take the commie's oil over the terrorists, thank you very much. Besides Citgo's gas is cheaper (at least around here).

Tough luck...they aligned themselves with the wrong people.....

I doubt that gas station owners, truck drivers and clerks "aligned themselves" with Venezuela. More than likely they are just Americans trying to make a living.

Now I'd like to ask you all if you own anything or have ever bought anything made in a communist country? (Actually this question is rhetorical as I am not confident of receiving honest replies to it)

By the way, even the Sage of Monticello finally realized that boycotts do more harm to one's own citizens than they do the boycotted country -

During the second term, France and Britain were still at war, and they soon began blockading each other's maritime trade routes. The United States economy suffered greatly by blockades done on both sides. In addition to blocking trade, the British Royal Navy began impressing, meaning boarding ships and getting sailors who might have deserted the Royal Navy.

This led to an increase of tension between the United States and Great Britain. It got worst when the British started to attack American ships in American sovereign waters. Jefferson responded by boycotting British goods, while using the time to increase military and naval reserves. Yet the boycott wasn't as effective since both the Brits and French continued to disrespect American ships. Jefferson then called and passed the Embargo Act of 1807, which basically shut down American imports and exports, causing a perilous economic situation. As the economy collapsed - most hurt was the merchant center in New England - smuggling began more extensive. Jefferson repealed the Embargo Act in his final days as president.

Furthermore, our nation's greatest President lifted the boycott of wheat sales to the USSR in 1981 and lifted the trade boycott against Poland in 1987.
I have to wonder if you all would disparage him as you do those Americans, directly or indirectly, earning money from Citgo?

Boycotts are the only way the average person can have any real effect on a huge corporation. It is a perfectly acceptable option to exercise.

Are you saying we don't have a right NOT to buy from these people if we don't like what they are doing? YOu bring up the issue whether people have bought items from a communist country (ie China) yet if I am to take your logic to its conclusion we should never use boycotts to express our anger or our opposition to a company.

Y'know back in the old days people burned down businesses they didn't like. Accidents, yeah, that's what they were. You'd prefer something like this instead of simply not buying their products?

Fact is, it's not only the best thing we can do, it's the only option that will ever hope to get their attention. There is no better way. If there is, let me know because I will do that instead.

I didn't finish where I was going in my second paragraph. I was going to say that this guy is implying we should not boycott companies. Don't we have a right NOT to buy from companies when they do things we oppose? That sounds more communistic than purchasing goods made by companies that have factories in a communist country. Besides, to me it's a slap in the CHICOM's faces that the thing keeping their country from being one big rice paddy is capitalist businesses.

I realize your intent, but boycotting Citgo will also hurt those Americans who own and work for these service stations, the truck drivers who deliver the fuel, the companies that supply the merchandise sold inside the station's shops, etc.

...they can work for someone else..... maybe they like the green money from the country ruled by the "Devil"... too bad.

what if you found out that you worked for a company that provided a profit to terrorists in order for them to buy IED components. you'd quit... same thing.

this clown is hoping and praying for our country's demise.

Of course you"re thinking is like that of the "Good German" Jews... who refused to believe that Hitler would ever come for them.... Venezuela, Iran, Korea, ..and others are praying for our destruction. I'll boycott for you.. you are of course free to choose. That's what's so great about our country.

You choose to give money to a company whose money goes to the enemy of our country.... I choose to buy my gas at Sam's Club, Shell or Exxon. Neat, huh?

Certainly no merchandise made in communist countries in Sam's Club. Must be why Dick Vomer doesn't feel like a hypocrite as he berates folks who patronize Citgo.

I am a hypocrite... as I sit on my chinese made jeans, Mexican/indonesian/American made furniture.... I do what I can... I have a choice... as do you. I make mine, you make yours.... neat huh?

They must have liked Citgo, otherwise why not work somewhere else.

Go to the unemployment office, they'll help them.

Those Navy guys know that there are other stations nearby. It's just like having them give their bullets to the enemy so they can use the bullets to shoot them. There's no difference.

I wonder if Mr Garay can write to Hugo and then him to apologize. Since Mr Garay is in the United States, he can claim his 1st amendment rights of freedom of speech.

Then let's see if Hugo respects Mr Garay's rights.

If you find out that your company works for Osama Bin Laden, what would you do?

Tell your neighbor that you are just an employee?

Quit man!

You could encourage the little Mom and Pop stores that use Citgo as their carrier to switch to another one like Chevron, Marathon, Ashland, Exxon, etc.
