TIME: U.S. May be Preparing For War Against Iran 09:54 Sep 18, '06 / 25 Elul 5766
(IsraelNN.com) The United States might be preparing for war against Iran, according to the current issue of TIME Magazine. It reported that the American Navy recently ordered a submarine and minesweepers to prepare to deploy, and it is likely the intention was to prepare to blockade the Persian Gulf where Iranian oil tankers must pass.
"From the State Department to the White House to the highest reaches of the military command, there is a growing sense that a showdown with Iran--over its suspected quest for nuclear weapons, its threats against Israel and its bid for dominance of the world's richest oil region--may be impossible to avoid.," according to the magazine report.
It noted that American worries over Iran increased dramatically following the Iranian-backed Hizbullah terrorist war against Israel this summer.
Any American attack on Iran would be from the air and not from the ground, TIME said. American strategists estimate that Iran's first reaction would be to attack Israel.

Allies Plan June 4th Invasion at Normandy, could be as late as June 6th, depending on weather. Massive deception operation intended to lull the Nazis into expecting assault on Calais in progress.
Rommel forgoes wife's birthday celebration in anticipation of assault, Hitler refuses sleeping medication to ensure he is alert and ready to release Panzer divisions when blow falls.
Military experts say the Germans are unlikely to be fooled by the deception plan and will release reserve Panzer divisions to crush the Normandy invasion, rather than keep them near Calais. "This ruse so obvious," Professor Kanthelp Knowitall at Harvard stated. "My sources in the Third Reich, with whom I am in constant consultation through mutual friends at the Uruguayan embassy, told me that they were already aware of this transparent deception and did not fall for it all." He continued, "When the Germans commit all their reserves to Normandy and strip other locations of all but token forces, Eisenhower will be thrown back into the Channel, or Le Manche, qui on dit , and Roosevelt's folly in making war on greater Germany will be impossible to hide", he continued.
Professor Knowitall said he has former students who are highly placed in the War and State Departments, who pass on to him no more than they routinely pass on to our Soviet allies. Professor Knowitall is touted as a prime candidate for Secretary of State in the anticpated administration of future President Henry A. Wallace.
If we wanted Tahiti there will be a file somewhere with the charts and estimated figures on it for what it would take to occupy and pacify it.
I think the USA is preparing for war with many places right now due to the violence of the Religion of Pieces.
The media believes it is the 4th branch. Unfortunately, it may be more than belief. I can only thank the powers that be that it is not governmentally funded like the BBC. In any event, in this instance, the Times has done the U.S. a favor in two ways.
One, the more talk of war the more acclimated the public becomes to the idea of a war with Iran. In other words it makes swollowing the medicine that much easier.
Two, Akma.... whatever, has got to wonder if indeed the U.S. is prepared to go to war. To the extent it is possible to deter, non militarily, Iran from its nuclear ambitions, and I'd rate this possibility as extremely low, then, and to that extent, it is helpful if Akma..., whatever, beleives we are locked and loaded. The clearer the picture of war presented to this madman the better.
So, on this rare occassion, I thank the Times.
Not coincidentally, BTW, the U.N. ultimatum ran out on the night of a new moon. The initial Apache assault on the Iraqi search radar took place in near total darkness and the initial Stealth assaults that followed, were in near total darkness.
BTW, stealth isn't all that stealthy or invisible, but when back up by massive jamming, it's good enough. Taking our the search radar made good sense, since if it cued the fire control radars, they might have scored a few successes.
That's really good news since they effectively declared war on us when Jimmuh was president. We're almost 30 years late, but you know the old saying.
I asked her where the biggest threat for future peace was. She said Iran (since we just finished talking about Admenijad and Israel)
I asked here where our most active and experienced troops were right now. She said Iraq and Afghanistan.
I asked here to name the main nations that border Iran. (She wasn't sure, so we whipped out an map.) Iraq is on the west side, and Afghanistan on the east flank.
(The Caspian Sea, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, the Gulf, Turkmenistan, and Pakistan are the others, for you Geography Bee champions)
I asked her if she though that was a good place to be for any trouble with Iran. She said it seemed like it.
I asked her if she thought it was a coincidence, a brilliant plan by an underling, or great Presidential leadership that led to that surrounding of the greatest potential threat. She said it was a coincidence.
*sigh*
Well, at least she's starting to see that our current deployment makes sense.
"TIME [Magazine]: US May Be Preparing for War Against Iran"
In other news, Karl Rove "May" be preparing for a 2008 WH run.
George Bush "May" be preparing to convert to Islam
Rosie O'Donnel "May" be preparing to go on a diet, become straight and stop being stupid.
I'll believe that about Rosie when I can see it! :0 )
Ya don't think that possibly the Administration wants this leaked so Iran gets the message the time for BSing is over
How about this.... Maybe one or more of the remaining clintonistas leaked it due to the a$$ whooping the Democraps took in the recent elections? Maybe this is a way to scare the fence sitters before the next election.
My wife signed up for it. I enjoy reading it even though it is evil. It occasionally is very good for a laugh, such as the Algore/globalwarming issue.
A couple of mine sweepers and we're going to war with Iran ???
I think you would see a much bigger build-up if that were true. Iran has been flexing its muscles and these ships are just additional defensive assets for the other navy ships that are already there.
Like the aircraft carrier Enterprise and ...
Oh, I forgot the B-2's coming out of Diego Garcia.
By and large you are correct, except that there is substantial government funding for PBS. It was around $60 million just a few years ago.
Good point but then again, alot of our fellow americans are sheep.
