McStain was handed his rear by Bill Kristol for his RINO waffling on the interrogation legislation.

Not that there was much chance, but we won't be seing President McCain. Thank goodness.

Under no circumstance however wierd do I ever see myself voting for this guy. Ever. Electing a Democrat at least you know where you stand. This politician (I use that in the perjorative sense) makes you think you are getting a conservative then backstabs you and legalizes abortion, guts the military, and puts ACLU lawyers on the Supreme Court.

I would rather get stabbed in the guts by an enemy than get stabbed in the back by a friend.

Bush adopted McCains plan from last year and now he is against it ? Is he working for the RATS ? He can forget about the GOP nomination and he knows it with this action.

As I understand it, the rules regarding interrogation are vague at best, and can be interpreted so as to preclude any kind of interrogation at all. But, I also understand that non-unifomed combatants are considered partisans or terrorists, and can be legally executed on the battlefield. It seems to be that this is where all this is leading, no prisoners. Interrogation may still take place, be we all know that a dead man tells no tales.

The Navy pilot held captive for five years and tortured by the North Vietnamese said Americans will be captured in future wars, and the U.S. must not set a bad example by allowing harsher interrogation techniques than permitted by the Geneva Conventions.

That's funny, I didn't realize that all the terrorist groups were parties to the Geneva Convention. In wars between a signatory to the Geneva Convention and a non-signatory (e.g., between Germany and the USSR 1941-45), the Convention has never applied. So I don't see what McCain's point is. Does he think the terrorists who behead captives are abiding by the Geneva Convention?

We must claim a piece of paper even though to the terrorists it means nothing. We must claim the moral high groud even if that leaves us all dead. John McCain is quite simply clueless about the nature of our enemy.

Ah, Mr. McCain, we're not "better" than this, actually. Beneath the veneer of civilization lies a savagery that the Japanese, for one, did not imagine we could muster before we filled their caves with napalm and touched it off. The only sense in which we are "better" is that we are better at it than our enemies. Quite a bit better. It isn't necessarily something to be proud of, but it's a fact.

I wrote this a while ago:

I start to think that the West sometimes is still trapped in their superiority complex. They still think that they're better than other. By allowing themselves to follow the rules, regardless what the other side is doing, the West thinks they're taking a higher ground. To some degree, this is like some one who is patronizing another person. The difference is, in this case, the other guy wants to kill you.

It seems a new Geneva Convention may be needed that would address this kind of situation. However, we know how a decision in an international forum is made. Especially in this case.

I don't want the US losing its legal argument in the long term, but neither do I want to give the terrorists the same rights as captures in conventional war have. If only the SCOTUS established that not all wars are under Geneva Convention...

John McCain is reliving his experience. He has yet to realize that Al Queda and their Allies are not as civilized as his North Vietnamese captors. An American pilot captured by these guys would be tortured not for information... (They already know all they need to about Navy aviation) but for pleasure. They really like to beat captives into a mass of bruises and cut them up one appendage at a time (think Texas chain saw massacre). Eyes are easily gouged out prior to beheading. After they play soccer with the head they will put it in a basket and drop it off where it will be found...

John McCain and his supporters along with the Democrats have no idea what the enemies rules of engagement are or how they laugh at us for ours. They know if they are captured we will feed them well and treat their wounds and that eventually we will release them so they can do it again.

No one advocates a symmetric form of captive treatment. But making interrogations non-coercive under all circumstances is naive.

John McCain is an egocentric, media prostituting, treasonous, lying s.o.b.

Otherwise, he's a great guy.

"Both administration officials and the small group of Republicans opposing the administration on the subject said during the weekend they are confident they can reach a compromise. "

Bush do what Bush should have done years ago with this loose cannon demon. He should take him to the woodshed, politically beat the crap out him and tell him Arizona isn't getting didle-squat as long as he continues to act like a pandering traitor.
