This story, in all its ugliness, needs to be screamed from one end of the globe to another. It merely proves what Manuel II Paleologus said was absolutely correct.
The Islamic world apparently has no sense of irony.
Those filthy bastards. What repulsive beings. They may not be the ones personally committing these atrocities but they are just as evil.
I also want to point out that this talk was given as a lecture to a bunch of theologians and was in the context of HOW TO HAVE DIALOGUE, and the emphasis was on the use of reason. It was not a direct attack on Islam, but rather an explanation of why, in order to have a dialogue, people must use reason.
It is quite obvious to me that some in the press took a comment out of context and ran to their Islamic sources for a reaction. Those people in Somalia and Pakistan aren't watching Vatican TV nor are they reading the speech on the Vatican web site. Someone went to them and said "here's what the Pope said, could I get your reaction?"
And so, in my opinion, the press has the death of this good sister on their pea-sized consciences. The press is becoming as much an enemy of civilization as the jihadists.
