Re 28 & 29 - I totally agree with you. I have been observing this for a long time. There seemed to be a time when Israel was the underdog and enjoyed a lot of support (as "the only democracy in the middle east"), even within the Democrat party. Then it all seemed to turn when the Arabs started twisting the oil spigot. Dubya has tried to answer back and set things straight, IMHO. Pope has criticised Dubya from his Ivory Tower. I'm glad these nuts "took his head off" with their extremely vociferous backlash towards him simply for him raising an issue and attempting to initiate a civil dialog. Now he may know why we cannot address race, poverty, or almost anything in this country for fear of being tagged a racist, bigot, sexist, homophobe etc. for even broaching a subject. I can't think of a time in modern times where there has been so much chilling of free speech. The media and those who manipulate media are the main culprits. Hopefully the Pope will fall into line on our side and start kicking butt and taking names.
I'm sorry, I don't recall this Pope even having been "harshly critical of the USA's War on Terror. What specific information do you have that shows this?
I've always understood the Pope to speak against war and torture in general, which is something one would expect from any Christian leader.
He should not apologize for telling the truth.
True.
If they pull any jihadist crap in Rome, like bombing the Vatican or even hurting our beloved Pope, their "religion of peace" will become like the Latin language: extinct.
I hope everyone saves a prayer for Pope Benedict. He and his noble words need to be heard and protected now more than ever. God bless him.
"Sincere Regrets" sound apologetic to me.
Islam is a violent, backward looking religion. It isn't Christianity that needs to change.
Once again, I say these words: F$%k Islam; F$%k Muslims.
Here's an idea! Someone should create a cartoon with the pope wiping his arse with pages from the Koran? Maybe they will blow a gasket? You think?
Message to the Pope: please don't "dhimminish" your remarks.
Convert as many as you can. Introduce the rest to the Creator personally as soon as possible
All of this response just proves the pope's point. Spreading violence and hatred...it's what they do. Once in a while they use an excuse like this.
They probably have no idea what the pope said.
A violent reaction to the Pontiff's truthful comments.
How novel.
The Pope should have paraphrased that Klingon fellow on the Trouble with Tribbles by saying: "I didn't mean to say Islam IS garbage, I meant to say Islam should be hauled away AS garbage."
And if anything does happen to this pope, expect the NY/NJ crime families to burn down every mosque in the tri-state.
The spiritual leader of Lebanon's Sunnis, the Grand Mufti Sheik Mohammed Rashid Kabbani, said the pope's remarks emanated either from "Ignorance and lack of knowledge or were deliberately intended to distort Islam."
"Reason is the substance of Islam and its teachings ... Islam prohibited violence in human life. Anyone who wants the truth (about Islam) must take it from Islam's holy book, the Koran, rather than from a dialogue or excerpts," he said.
Good to hear that! (I have not read about this.)

I have no intention of apologizing for what the Pope said, even if it were wrong...so why should anyone apologize for what others did on 9/11?
