Brosnan Protests Planned Gas Terminal (Clueless Hollyweird Alert)
Associated Press ^ | 16 Sep 2006

MALIBU, Calif. (AP) — Pierce Brosnan and other celebrities on Friday protested plans to build a liquefied natural gas terminal off the coast of Southern California.

The Cabrillo Port Liquefied Natural Gas facility is being proposed by Australian-based BHP Billiton, one of the world's largest energy companies. The $800 million terminal would be located 14 miles off the coast of Malibu.

Opponents of the project said the terminal fails to meet federal clean air requirements, but BHP officials argued that it would provide a reliable source of low-polluting energy.

Babs is opposed to it? Who would've thunk??

If Babs is opposed, then it really is a GREAT idea!

I believe these idiots do such things to give them something to talk about at their social gatherings. I suppose it gets them a little camera time as well.....

I always thought it was "Hollywood type + washed up career = newly developed ill-informed social activism."

"Pierce Brosnan"

Uh... why does this FOREIGNER give a shiite what's built off the coast of the USA. If he's so ticked, why doesn't he go back where he came from, the UK?

Hmm, couldn't be because he's avoiding the draconian UK taxes could it? Nah, a liberal wouldn't do that.

Good afternoon.
"If Babs is opposed, then it really is a GREAT idea!"

I'm opposed to the idea, too, almost as much as I'm opposed to the idea that Babs is still wasting good American air.

There are high seas and pearly silver fogs and lots of shipping races though the channel. I've scurried out of the way of fast moving tankers and container ships in those waters several times, without the big guys even acknowledging my presence. A collision is almost certain one day and if it involves an LPG tanker the effect can be catastrophic.

Worse than this were plans to build a terminal at Point Conception. Some of the worst conditions on the west coast are to be found there.

Ya know, whats REALLY interesting is that these idiots have been spouting off about creating and using cleaner sources of fuel, but when someone actually proposes doing exactly that, they protest it. WTF

Proof that the Left does not have 2 brain cells to rub together.

What part of the terminal being 14 miles offshore is troublesome? The NIMBY mentality will continue to drive our energy problems.

But hey, why should you (and the Hollyweird types) sacrifice a little, right?

Of course they are opposed to it.

I would provide relatively clean fuel at a lower cost.

(So would a nuclear power plant)

They oppose they measures, if they pass they would have nothing to complain about!

I have no problem with the NIMBYs but they should be barred from the use of any services they oppose and they should have to pay the owner of the property for the loss of use of his property.

Good morning.
"What part of the terminal being 14 miles offshore is troublesome?"

You and Danae should learn to read before you start mouthing off.

The problem isn't the terminal, but the traffic it will create in an area that is already congested.

I think they should build the terminal somewhere along the Columbia, or in the waters off northern Washington state.

I don't live in Southern California anymore and I'm 33 miles from the ocean. Build the damned terminal where you choose. Oh, and may you have fair winds and following seas.

There are proven reserves off the coast of Ca. in relatively shallow water that would satisfy this countrys need for oil for many years to come. The taxes the state could collect on the oil would not only balance their budget but create a huge surplus. We drill for oil off the coast of Tx and La. What is so different about Ca.?

Good morning.
"We drill for oil off the coast of Tx and La. What is so different about Ca.?"

There have been rigs in the Santa Barbara Channel for decades. The fish love them. I have no problem with drilling anywhere off the coast.

This is not about drilling, though the professionally indignant Leftists oppose that, too. My opposition to the terminal stems from my knowledge of the traffic.

As I said, though, build it where you choose. I don't sail anymore so my life won't be endangered.
