As a point of history and theology, man was commanded by Moses to bury it, not grow crops with it.
When I think about this I recall my days back in Korea, and I remember how they fertilized the rice paddies. I ate that rice?
why is it necessary to throw out the bagged spinach? Why can't someone just cook it first (sautee or boil for example) before eatinc?
Like your screen name.
About 7 years ago I closed off an old two-track road on my property in order to recover it. The road consisted of pulverized dirt that essentially was dust and sand. During rainstorms this road dust washed down the hill, covering the hillside with muck.
I dumped a few truckloads of maple and oak chips on the road, worked them into the road with a front end loader, and then by hand with hand tools down to about 8-12 inches and finally planted clover and alfalfa.
The former road is recovering nicely and nature is moving in goldenrod, grasses and other plants.
LOL! We always add "poop" and to our vegtable garden, however it is composted manure. Our tomatoes this year were about 10 inches in diameter. Sweet & tasty, yum!
Manure is used on the fields surrounding us. It is sprayed several times a year. The manure spread by Badger equipment is foul and overwhelming. Since the locals sold out to corporate farms we feel overwhlemed by the odors. Our neighbors spread manure over the fields for years. It was nothing like this liquid crap sprayed by the new owners. There are no laws regarding turning the liquid manure over into the ground. It sits for days and at times runs down our
country road with the rain. We have lived her for almost 30 years. We own a nice place pretty much off to ourselves. We are close to selling. The heavy equipment travels too fast, we have replaced numerous mailboxes taken out by the enormous tires. Liquid manure changed our wonderful home and farm into living with our noses up the behind of a yak.
None of our neighbors children had any interest in farming so they all sold.
"Dis iz all I can stands, 'cuz I can't stands no more!!"
Yes, and apparently *you* didn't realize, genius, I wasn't referring to media mole's quip in any way, shape, or form.
Another good reason to avoid organic.
Well, I thot the joke was funny. I had that exact same thot.
Thanks for posting that. I was wondering about using a bleach/water mixture. [I don't eat raw spinach, but I was wondering.]
Organic kills!!
More lives are lost to eating organic than are saved.
Wonder how this woll affect the pregnant Allison?
Not that I would eat it anyway, but wouldn't a bleach water solution kill all the vitamins as well?
Well, each to their own, and all that. I certainly don't fault you (or anyone else) for a stance on a particular joke. I was just doing a little troll-pruning in my last post. :)
I used to get horse manure from the stables and compost it in, with bales of hay. Until I realized that the richer and more organic my garden, the farther away the coonies came from. Being in LA, shotguns at night are not the answer to critters. I finally figured -- the poorer the soil, the more they leave my garden alone. hahaha.
Your garden sounds great. Where are you?
Anybody know how hydroponics work?
