This is being reported live on tv so has not yet made it on the website. Tremors have been felt in Central Florida.
Thanks. That makes sense. Apparently it upset the local wildlife- just saw something I never see- a large owl flew in and settled on my lawn.
Ping!
Our daughter is at school in Naples. Her apartment is on the 4th floor; I'm wondering if she noticed it. She's felt a couple of earthquakes before, when we were visiting Tokyo in the summer of 2005.
We have family in Chassahowitzka (about 45 miles N. of Tampa) and they definitely had the walls of their home shake. We are about 20 miles north of them and didn't feel anything. They were dumbfounded when I told them it was an earthquake!
*snort*
Great Link,,TANKS.
"Today's excuse for higher gas prices brought to you by Shifting Fault Lines, Inc."
Bush is responsible for the earthquake. Since he is responsible for the fall of gas prices just before the election (for votes) he now needed a reason for gas prices to rise just days after the primary. It is amazing what this man wont do for votes.

Rattled a few windows here, nothing more.
Clearly, it's Bush's FAULT...
It's odd, to say the least. I'm located near the eastern edge of the Lake Wales Ridge, which is an ancient formation of (relatively) high sand and limestone hills. It was the first part of today's Florida that emerged after the seas withdrew from the peninsula, and developed some unique ecosystems. Some parts of it are almost desert-like, dominated by scrubby oaks and understory that includes a lot of prickly-pear cactus, despite the fact that the area receives 50 inches of rain a year. The sand is so well drained that the water just vanishes before the plants have much chance to take it up. I can walk a mile in either direction and see the remnants of ancient sand dunes that made up the shoreline millions of years ago.
Definitely the last place in the world you'd expect to find significant seismic activity.
Yeah, we don't get earthquakes here in Florida because we live on a giant sand bar! LOL!
Hey! We felt the earthquake here in Tampa this morning, just some minor shaking going on!
I thought this was interesting. Seems like Texans make most of their own. I wonder what the guys are doing out there:')
6.0 Earthquake in Gulf of Mexico at 9:56 am
Will the dems stop at nothing to change the subject?
In the Gulf of Mexico? That's unusual. Oh well, if Florida's billion-dollar tourist homes won't get wiped out in a hurricane, I guess an earthquake will take care of that.
Sometimes you get some minor aftershocks, but they're going to be pretty minor.
The slippage here was vertical, not horizontal, so the rocks under the sea floor are just adjusting to the new position of the neighboring fault block. It might well have happened all at once in which case there won't be any aftershocks.
This was an unusually strong shock for the Gulf, so the amount of slippage must have been significant. Well more than a few feet.
Hopefully, no oil or gas well was drilled through that fault plane. The quake would have severed the casing without a doubt.

I'd add one more:
3. Your tin foil hat is too tight.
The USGS wants to know if you felt today's (Sunday's) earthquake. If you did, cut-n-paste the entire URL, below, into your browser & fill out the report at this site:

Received the above from Collier Emergency Management. You might want to respond.
You *do* realize who SEDCO is/was, right?
