Boston, MA (LifeNews.com) -- Haleigh Poutre was the victim of child abuse and was nearly killed via euthanasia when Massachusetts officials gave up on her after she entered a coma. Now Poutre, once termed "brain dead" by doctors, continues to improve and is speaking a few words, her grandmother says.
Sandra Sudyka, the girl's biological grandmother, is no longer allowed to visit her granddaughter and now says she is ready to speak to the media about Poutre's condition.
She told The Republican newspaper that she last saw Poutre on July 18 but indicated she was "doing well."
"She was bright-eyed and smiling. She is always responsive to us," Sudyka explained.
Department of Social Services had asked Sudyka not to talk with reporters about Haleigh, but since they will no longer allow her and Haleigh's biological mother, Allison Avrett, to visit the 12 year-old, she said she's going to talk to the media.
"I decided since they broke the deal, I am going to talk. People should know how well she is doing," Sudyka told the newspaper.
"They don't want people to know how she is doing after they wanted to pull the plug," Sudyka said.
DSS spokeswoman Denise Monteiro declined an interview with The Republican but said that the visiting privileges have been suspended, not terminated.
Haleigh first began speaking in June, her grandmother told the newspaper.
"I was saying to her 'I love you,' and she was trying to say 'love' and it came out as a vibration...'ove,'" Sudyka said.
Sudyka, who is working with an attorney to adopt the girl, said she has said hello, responds to comments and questions, speaks nonverbally and is able to write her name. Haleigh can't walk and is confined to a wheelchair.
Avrett, Poutre's biological mother, lost custody of her daughter after physically abusing her. Poutre was put into a foster home where her adoptive parents also abused her. Her adopted mother committed suicide after abusing Poutre so much she had to be hospitalized.
DSS took Poutre into custody and when she appeared to slip into a coma, the agency asked the state Supreme Court for permission to take her life. That's when Poutre began responding.
Poutre has been receiving physical, speech and occupational therapy since January 26 at Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton.
Gov. Mitt Romney appointed a commission to look into how the state failed to properly handle the girl's case.
Reading Ramesh Ponnurus book, The Party of Death, I was reminded of something. In April 2005, Howard Dean said, Were going to use Terri Schiavo later on. This is going to be an issue in 2006 and its going to be an issue in 2008.
Okay, where is she? By all means, lets have that debate: over how to treat Terri Schiavo and others in her straits. The Democrats are always saying that abortion and the life issues work to their advantage, because the rest of us are extremists, theocrats, and so on. Odd, then, that they dont talk about abortion more, on the campaign trail. Most of them cant even say the word: They say right to choose (and school vouchers have nothing to do with it).
Want to talk about euthanasia, want to talk about abortion? Be my guest. Im sorry that Chairman Dean didnt follow up on his pledge.

I notice that this newspaper is still calling it a "right to die" case. WHAT are they thinking? That Haleigh, age 11, was trying to exercise her rights by getting beaten nearly to death? That she asked to have her medical care withdrawn and be dehydrated to death?
That would be due to the cabbage cod combo.
This is growing egregious to an unnerving degree as like that of Terri, all right. I hope our allies in the media shine the spotlight back on Haleigh before they gobble her up in their quest. Thankfully this is being reported at least by some, like The Republican; otherwise, she may slip into the shade and become just one more parts supply. Even that isn't their motive, it is the love of death. Grrrr.
When I read what these fascist blackrobes are doing to people like Haleigh, I really start to resent FR's prohibition of profanity, because this is pure bullsh*t!
Roe vs.Wade was their tool. The meaning of the ruling was second to its use as a lever, the way I see it, like a giant crowbar prying the fractures of our resolve.
When will someone explain to the Culture of Death how stupid the phrase "right to die" actually is? We are all going to die, that is a long established fact, we can postpone it, but we can not avoid it.
What they should be saying is that they want to establish a "right to kill" because that is what they are pushing for.
Right to die means Right for them to kill.
Meanwhile, ping to All to your thread on the Canadian doctor. I mentioned our Canadian doctor friend in a post earlier today.
Dr. Robert Walley, founder of MaterCare International, said that he had no idea how much of an effect legalized abortion would have on practicing obstetricians. Walley initially practiced obstetrics in England under the National Health System but when he refused to perform abortions he was told to either switch specialties or leave. Walley chose to leave and moved to Canada where he worked as a faculty member at a new medical school. He says They weren't happy I had a particular view of things, and that pursued me until I retired from clinical practice last year."

We can use euphemisms and I do plenty of swearing in the privacy of our home, especially with what they try to do with little Haleigh.
There are some things so ingrained in our history that even our rocks cry out. As South Dakota works to restore protection to its children waiting to be born, the voices of our past cheer them on from a mountain in that state where the faces of Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln are chiseled in stone.

an excerpt:
"What we discussed as bishops was the role that we have in formation of conscience," he said. Asked about some Catholic politicians and lay people who try to justify support for abortion by appeals to conscience, the Bishop dismissed these as not being intellectually honest. "The pope talks about how reason becomes blind, and I think we experience that in our society," said Bishop Fabbro. "People are taking a very secular mentality, they're formed by the culture and that's how their opinions about different ethical issues. That is not what the Church talks about when she talks about formation of conscience - genuinely searching the depths of our being to see how God is enlightening us about those authentically human values."

We pretend there's no risk Eating fisk after fisk, Though we know very well where that may lead. So this box was designed With the two of us in mind As the kind of reminder we need. When you lift the lid, the music plays Like a disapproving nod. And it sings in your ear: "No more lutefisk, dear!" In a way, it's a little like the voice... of... cod!
This is called "borking" and it's a clear echo from Ted Kennedy's lies so many years ago. The writer has an original mind, eh?
But I'll bite anyway. For the children's sake, it's far better for the mother to stay at home if she can. Pssst -- a great number of women want to! The main deterrent to women being home to raise their kids is confiscatory tax rates (imposed by liberals to pay for liberal spending). And of course abortion is baby-killing. I'm not surprised that Margaret Carlson approves. (Though her mother obviously didn't.)
>> He ... flew to Terri Schiavo's bedside to pray with her parents.
I'll bite again. What in God's name is wrong with that?
Here is the issue in a nutshell. If you approve of killing the disabled and the elderly and unborn babies, vote Democrat. If you believe in God and in the power of prayer, and if you want to live a long, full life, vote Republican and pray the Democrats are defeated.
"Hmm, wonder how pirogis would be stuffed with lutefisk. Now that would be really something.
"
Unthinkable. However, I'm thinking about a new State Fair delicacy. Lutefisk on a stick. You'd wrap the lutefisk in lefse, then deep fry it. Oh, yumm!
You are absolutely right. "Right to die" means decriminalizing murder when we want to bump off inconvenient people. Maybe they are elderly relatives with a lot of money to inherit, maybe just old folks "wasting" a hospital bed, maybe a disabled person we don't want to take care of. "Right to die" is actually a right to kill those folks without legal consequence; it is intended to confer an immunity to the manslaughter and murder laws. The "right to die" movement motto should be, "Let the slaughter begin!"
Forget it, Mitt, I'm outta your camp.
"In my court, it's the other way around" -- George Greer
Maybe it is time to start a vigil at this hospital and let them know that the world is watching.
Sure enough!!
Depriving a child of her mother's love is as low as it gets!
I'm sure this "judge" feels the state will provide for her
every need.
If you DO want a relationship with a moose, a Living Will is really, really recommended.
