Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - September 2006

Posted on 09/01/2006 8:57:29 PM PDT by nwctwx

:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Five Years Later, We're Still Not Safe
-Full Story-

In the five years since terrorists flew hijacked airliners into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Americans have accepted inconvenience, sacrificed personal liberties and paid billions of dollars for a security clampdown that touches virtually every aspect of their lives.

And we're still not safe.

A close examination of the federal government's homeland security effort shows that there have been major accomplishments since the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. But it also reveals how vulnerable the nation remains to catastrophe.

Clearly, these kinds of losses cannot be sustained for any extended period with any hope of winning back Afghanistan.

There's plenty more to eliminate (the sooner - the better)!

Snip: The Harakat ul-Mujahedin was estimated to have recruited about 5,000 volunteers and sent them into Afghanistan. The recruitment was funded by money from supporters in Pakistan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia (including Osama bin Ladin).

Radical Islamists using paintball to train for jihad

Snip: Well, since 9/11, several jihadists in the U.S. and Europe have been arrested and charged with using paintball as a form of paramilitary training. One of the London subway bombers--Mohammed Khan--was an avid paintball player. Likewise, 17 Toronto Muslims charged this summer with plotting terrorist attacks in Canada used paintball to train. Another Canadian Muslim charged with planning terrorist attacks, Mohammed Khawaja, also played paintball.

Here in the U.S., two Georgia Muslims charged earlier this year with plotting attacks against U.S. targets played as well. The most notorious case, however, occurred in the Washington, D.C. area. A group of 11 American Muslims there have been convicted for plotting to wage jihad against U.S. troops in Afghanistan and Indian troops in Kashmir. They trained by playing paintball in the northern Virginia countryside. One of the men told a grand jury he considered paintball "a form of jihad."

Terrorism expert Laura Mansfield and anti-jihad activist Jeff Epstein have been tracking this disturbing trend. They supplied CBN news exclusively with a shocking al-Qaeda video that was posted on an online Muslim message board in the U.S.

The video begins with images of missiles taking out America. It then moves on to a speech by Adam Gadahn, an American-born member of al-Qaeda. Next come scenes of two men playing paintball. But that's not all. The men also conduct mock suicide bombings and practice explosives training. Most of the footage, however, shows them playing paintball.

Epstein believes al Qaeda is trying to send a message to its followers with this video. He says paintball is a relatively inexpensive way to target practice--as opposed to spending a larger amount of money on securing modern weaponry and ammunition. In fact, U.S. law enforcement and the military have used paintball at times to train.

Yes, there is a supply coming in. Many most likely don't stay long. Those that did stay didn't have a very long life expectancy on the battlefield. If they continue to lose men at a 20-30:1 ratio, they need to have a huge force in order to overwhelm the difference in firepower superiority. They may also be stuck on Russia and how they fought there and not adapted readily to current tactics and methodology (and let us hope they don't adapt).

Meet bin Laden junior
Posted by: Neil on Saturday, December 24, 2005 - 04:56 PM

Here is a recent picture of Osama bin Laden's son: 14-year-old Hamza bin Laden.

New video footage shows Hamza and other child fighters taking part in an attack on Pakistani security forces.

The film is believed to have been shot earlier this year in the tribal region on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Place spray paint cans behind locked doors to eliminate graffiti, no more than 3 cell phones at a time, but buy all the ammonium nitrate you can haul in a single load.

Yep! Makes sense to me! We wouldn't want to inconvenience any farmers out there.

U.S. Embassy: Assad allows attack, offers "protection" and aims at confusion

by Walid Phares, Ph.D.

According to well-informed Syrian sources, the September 12 terrorist attack against the U.S. embassy in Damascus is one of the "Machiavellian" Assad operations.

Let's remind ourselves that the Syrian regime's senior strategists and intelligence officers were trained by the sophisticated "intox" schools of the former Soviet's KGB. One of the main tactics of this old school, refined by Hafez Assad during his rule of Syria is based on the following concept: If the equation is to your disadvantage, create a new problem, offer to solve it, obtain recognition; and by that you'd change the equation.

The strategic objective of the Assad regime today is to deter Washington from further pressures against Syria, in the form of the Hariri investigation, the U.S. pressure through the Security Council to deploy forces along the borders with Lebanon and the American ongoing support to the anti-Syrian Government in Beirut.

Generally speaking, farmers are a cooperative lot and will do whatever is right.

I don't think they would protest any new rules or regulations.

Iraqi Police, Army Capture Several Insurgents

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Sept. 13, 2006 – Iraqi police detained three suspected insurgents and discovered a makeshift bomb near a mosque in Mosul, Iraq, Sept. 11, U.S. military officials said.

The insurgents fired on coalition forces near a cemetery in western Mosul, then fled into a mosque and continued to attack from inside after coalition forces pursued them. Coalition forces cordoned off the area and notified Iraqi police of the situation.

The Iraqi police searched the mosque and surrounding area, leading to the capture of the three insurgents and the discovery of a prepared makeshift bomb. Iraqi explosive ordnance disposal personnel destroyed the bomb, officials said.

There were no injuries to coalition or Iraqi forces.

Elsewhere in Iraq, Iraqi soldiers, supported by Multinational Division Baghdad soldiers, captured three known terrorists in the Shaab neighborhood of Baghdad Sept. 11.

While soldiers from 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team cordoned off the area, Iraqi army soldiers conducted a search of area buildings and compounds. They captured members of a terrorist cell responsible for attacking Iraqi and coalition forces with makeshift bombs and for supplying and operating a bomb production factory, officials said.

The suspects were detained for questioning.

Iraqi army and coalition forces continue to target terrorist cells and death squads with intelligence-driven operations as part of Operation Together Forward, officials said.

Russia plans massive boost in uranium production
AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE

MOSCOW: Russia intends to increase tenfold its investments in prospecting for and mining uranium over the coming two years, the head of Russia's Atomic Energy Agency said on Tuesday.

"In 2007 spending on uranium prospection and extraction will be increased five times, then, in 2008, ten times, passing from 100 million rubles (3,7 million dollars, 2.9 million euros) to 1 billion rubles (37 million dollars, 29 million euros)," agency boss Sergy Kirienko told the Ria-Novosti news agency.

On Monday, the Atomic Energy Agency and Russia's Ministry of Natural Resources signed an agreement confirming the planned spending increase.

"It is not possible to limit developing countries' access to peaceful atomic energy, either from a political or an economic viewpoint," Kirienko said.

Russia announced in July that it was to spend 570 million rubles (21 million dollars, 17 million euros) prospecting for new uranium deposits, in order to fuel nuclear power stations being built both on Russian soil and abroad.

Russia is currently finishing the construction of a nuclear power station at Bouchehr in Iran.

"Chaplain convicted of saying prayers 'in Jesus' name'
Klingenschmitt jury to resume work in morning on punishment"
Posted: September 13, 2006

© 2006 WorldNetDaily.com

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A military jury today convicted a Navy chaplain of a misdemeanor count of disobeying his commanding officer for wearing his uniform while delivering a prayer "in Jesus' name" at an assembly in front of the White House.

"But I had prior written permission to wear my uniform if it was a religious observance, (so) prayers are not a religious observance," Lt. Gordon James Klingenschmitt told WND after the military court-martial recessed for the night.

"Therefore I disobeyed my commanding officer's order not to pray in uniform," he said.

Klingenschmitt, who raised immediate concerns with this superiors when the Navy issued a new order that prayers could only be "non-sectarian," also has alleged he was punished for raising those concerns, and later notifying Congress and President Bush of the situation.

(Story continues below)

Klingenschmitt told WND that his lawyer rested the case without calling any witnesses, one of whom was scheduled to be former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, because of the Biblical injunction in Isaiah, where the prophecy about Jesus says he "was oppressed and afflicted yet he did not open his mouth."

Klingenschmitt told WND that there is an appeal process that will be pursued, up to the U.S. Supreme Court if needed."
