"IDF developing measures to counter Iran's WMD threat"
By YAAKOV KATZ
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "With Iran racing to obtain nuclear weapons, the IDF Home Front Command (HFC) has shifted its focus since the war in Lebanon and is now investing most of its efforts in confronting the threat of non-conventional weapons of mass destruction (WMD), a high-ranking officer revealed Monday.
The officer said the HFC was in the process of developing new technological means to deal with chemical and biological threats. The Jerusalem Post has learned that the HFC was in the process of developing mobile air-purification containers that could be brought to areas infected by chemical or biological weapons and purify the air.
According to an officer involved in the development, the containers would minimize the number of dead and wounded during a chemical attack since they would quickly purify air infected by deadly chemical agents."

"U.S. Military in Iraq Holds Associated Press Photographer for Five Months as Security Threat"
Monday, September 18, 2006
I've seen some of the lettuce in the stores and it's pretty decrepit looking at its sales point in the stores. People come along and handle each head looking for "just the right one." By the time we get it home, it's hard to tell exactly what could be lurking on or in it. Ditto much of the other available produce.
Some fruits and veggies are shipped from South American countries that use sprays outlawed here and which have "iffy" sanitation practices compared to our own. A few years back raw alfalfa and clover sprouts were touted to carry e-coli and salmonella
It's the old 3 monkeys at work: (they'll) see no evil; hear no evil; speak no evil (the ACLU, CAIR and liberals would be grievously offended and we'd hear no end to it).
I agree. It concerns me however when the supposedly moderate ones use the word "but" when moderators ask them about their opinion of "jihad." They turn the questioning back to the reading of the Koran.....which "infidels" shouldn't have to read to interpret their idea of right and wrong.

Adam Gadahn spotted in Pakistan
Snip: The American al Qaeda, Adam Gadahn, was spotted last month in a remote area of Pakistan but moved before he could be captured, Pakistani intelligence officials tell ABC News. The officials say Gadahn, a native of Orange County, Calif., was seen in South Waziristan, where he is believed to be involved in the production of al Qaeda propaganda tapes. He has appeared several times in the last year on video tapes, predicting the streets of America will "run red with blood" and expressing his glee that the 9/ll attacks took place on "enemy soil."
AQ posts promise of jihad until West won over
Snip: In a statement posted on the Internet, the Iraq Al-Qaeda said it will engage in jihad (holy war) 'til the West is won over. It was made in response to the statements made by Pope Benedict XVI connecting Islam with violence. "We say to the servant of the cross (the pope): wait for defeat... We say to infidels and tyrants: wait for what will afflict you. We continue our jihad. We will not stop until the banner of unicity flies throughout the world," said the statement said by the Mujahedeen consultative council.
The statement adds, "We will smash the cross... (you will have no choice but) Islam or death."
Web video game - jihadis play kill Bush characters
Snip: video game that prompts players to kill characters that look like President Bush has been posted on a number of Islamist Web sites. The game is called "Quest for Bush," or "The Night of Bush Capturing." Players are prompted to advance through six missions against soldiers who look like Bush, followed by a seventh mission against a character that looks like the president that takes place in a desert-like region. During the game, jihadist songs are played in the background.
Another Mexico border tunnel found
Snip: A 400-foot tunnel was discovered Monday in Southern California along the U.S.-Mexico border that authorities believe was used to funnel drugs between the two countries. Federal officials said the secret passage connected a home in Calexico, Calif., to another house, 400 feet away, in Mexicali, Mexico. Officials said the tunnel is about 20 feet underground and is equipped with lighting and supported by wooden beams.
OPINION: I wonder which "friend" Gadahn is living with?

"Violent Muslim Reaction Justifies Pope's Stated Concerns, Cardinal Says"
By Patrick Goodenough
CNSNews.com International Editor
September 19, 2006
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "(CNSNews.com) - As the Vatican continues trying to placate Muslims angered by Pope Benedict XVI's recent remarks, a senior Catholic leader has said the violent response justified the concern the pope had been expressing in the first place.
Citing threats of violence against the pope in Somalia and Iraq, Archbishop of Sydney Cardinal George Pell said "the violent reactions ... showed the link for many Islamists between religion and violence, their refusal to respond to criticism with rational arguments, but only with demonstrations, threats and actual violence."
In a statement, Australia's top Catholic leader expressed gratitude that no "organized violence" had occurred in Australia in response to the pope's words, and he called the reactions of some Australian Muslim leaders "unfortunately typical and unhelpful."
"It is always someone else's fault, and issues touching on the nature of Islam are ignored," he said.
"Our major priority must be to maintain peace and harmony within the Australian community, but no lasting achievements can be grounded in fantasies and evasions."
Pell said genuine questions about Islam needed to be addressed, not regularly avoided."

"Iranian Leader Urges More Papal Protests"
Sep 19, 1:31 AM (ET)
By LEE KEATH
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - Al-Qaida in Iraq warned Pope Benedict XVI on Monday that its war against Christianity and the West will go on until Islam takes over the world, and Iran's supreme leader called for more protests over the pontiff's remarks on Islam.
Protests broke out in South Asia and Indonesia, with angry Muslims saying Benedict's statement of regret a day earlier did not go far enough. In southern Iraq, demonstrators carrying black flags burned an effigy of the pope."

"Al Qaeda threat over pope speech"
POSTED: 1:42 p.m. EDT, September 18, 2006
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "CAIRO, Egypt (AP) -- An al Qaeda-linked extremist group warned Pope Benedict XVI on Monday that he and the West were "doomed," as protesters raged across the Muslim world to demand more of an apology from the pontiff for his remarks about Islam and violence.
The Mujahedeen Shura Council, an umbrella organization of Sunni Arab extremist groups that includes al Qaeda in Iraq, issued a statement on a Web forum vowing to continue its holy war against the West. The authenticity of the statement could not be independently verified.
The group said Muslims would be victorious and addressed the pope as "the worshipper of the cross" saying "you and the West are doomed as you can see from the defeat in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya and elsewhere. ... We will break up the cross, spill the liquor and impose head tax, then the only thing acceptable is a conversion (to Islam) or (killed by) the sword."
Islam forbids drinking alcohol and requires non-Muslims to pay a head tax to safeguard their lives if conquered by Muslims. They are exempt if they convert to Islam."

Christians face death for Muslim attacks

THREE death row prisoners convicted of leading a Christian militia in bloody violence against Muslims in Indonesia will be executed on Thursday, police said today, announcing beefed-up security to head off any unrest.
International rights groups, including Amnesty International, have argued that the trials were unfair and called for further investigations, while Pope Benedict XVI has appealed for clemency, but police said it would go ahead.
"The execution process will take place Thursday," national police spokesman Paulus Purwoko said, declining to reveal the precise time or location the firing squad would implement the punishment.
Indonesia usually carries out executions in secret.
Fabianus Tibo, Dominggus da Silva and Marianus Riwu were convicted in 2001 of leading a Christian militia against Muslims in religiously-divided Central Sulawesi.
The men's lawyer said they had been notified of their impending executions.
Islamic groups in the world's most populous Muslim country have urged the government to proceed with the executions, but Indonesia's Christian minority and other activists have protested.

Yemen arrests 'terrorist' over US plot
From correspondents in Sanaa
September 19, 2006
YEMENI President Ali Abdallah Saleh announced Tuesday the arrest of a "terrorist" - allegedly linked to his main election rival and to Osama bin Laden - accused of plotting attacks against US interests.
"We have arrested a major terrorist who was planning operations against American installations and the Movenpick hotel," Mr Saleh said at a press conference on the eve of the presidential poll.
He said the suspect was a bodygard for Faisal bin Shamlan, his main challenger in Wednesday's presidential race.
Mr Saleh's private secretary Abdo Burji said the suspect, Hussein al-Jerdani, was arrested on Sunday and had close links with the al-Qaeda terror chief.
"He was a companion of Osama bin Laden and is the owner of a house rented to a cell which recently tried to launch attacks against oil installations in Yemen," Mr Burji said.
Four bombers and a security guard were killed Friday when Yemeni security forces foiled twin suicide bombings against an oil refinery in Maarib, in the desert east of the capital Sanaa, and a Canadian-run terminal in the port of Dhabba on the Gulf of Aden.
The Government announced Saturday the arrest of four Yemeni "terrorists" linked to Al-Qaeda who it said was planning attacks on Sanaa.
Friday's attacks came after bin Laden's right-hand man Ayman al-Zawahiri warned that the Gulf and Israel would be the next targets of Al-Qaeda, in a video message coinciding with the fifth anniversary Monday of the September 11 attacks on the US.
Yemen is the ancestral homeland of bin Laden, and in October 2000, 17 US sailors were killed when suicide bombers aboard a small boat attacked the destroyer USS Cole off the southern port of Aden in an attack claimed by the militant network.
Since September 11, Sanaa has worked with Washington to clamp down on suspected al-Qaeda sympathisers.
Yemen's veteran head of state is virtually certain to win the presidential poll in which he faces four challengers, with Mr bin Shamlan his greatest rival.
The 64-year-old field marshal has been at the helm since 1978, first as president of the then North Yemen and later as leader of the unified state after north and south merged in May 1990.

Exactly, MD.
When I wrote that I was honestly waiting for someone to jump on it! Whatever a Muslim's true beliefs or interpretations of the Koran, the fact remains that they are not all actively out there adorned with suicide belts.
However we know some do show their support silently -- with a turned eye following acts of terrorism -- and others more explicitly continue to funnel money to the terror cause via business or charity fronts.
The bottom line remains that it is simply not terrorism in their eyes. And that's a hurdle that I doubt will ever be overcome, although this realization has been achieved by individual Muslims in anecdotal cases over the years.
BTW, that is a thought-provoking article you linked. The extremists certainly do have their allies in the world and even here stateside.
