NEW YORK (Reuters) - An Iraqi architect on Tuesday said he was forced to change his t-shirt before boarding a flight in New York because the shirt had "We will not be silent" written on it in Arabic and English. ADVERTISEMENT
Raed Jarrar wrote on his Internet blog (http://raedinthemiddle.blogspot.com) that he was required to change out of the shirt prior to boarding a JetBlue flight from New York's John F. Kennedy Airport to California this month because officials told him people were offended by the shirt.
In an interview with New York Public Radio on Tuesday, Jarrar said, "I grew up and spent all my life living under authoritarian regimes and I know that these things happen. But I'm shocked that they happened to me here, in the U.S."
Jarrar could not immediately be reached for comment.
JetBlue said it was investigating the August 12 incident.
"We're not clear exactly what happened," JetBlue spokeswoman Jenny Dervin said.
The American-Arab Anti-discrimination Committee said the U.S. Transportation Department and the Transportation Security Administration were also investigating the incident after the committee lodged complaints on behalf of Jarrar.
No, the way to defeat them is to remove them.
When you get a tooth ache do you ignore it? No, you pluck out the tooth or kill it with a root canal
I second your "B.S." and raise you an "attention whore." Just like Cindy Sheehan, these maroons choose a message to emblazon across their chests for the sole purpose of eliciting a response.
Here's a t-shirt an enterprising young American could wear on a flight to Karachi:
You saved me from pinging you. ;*)
So stop living in the US, if it's that bad. You see, you have the freedom to make that change here... unlike Muslims in Arab lands who wish to stop being Muslim.
Is that the same t-shirt we always see mother she-hag in?
Well, Jarrar, if you don't like it here, you can always go back to whatever camel dung laden city you came from.
A person cannot be allowed to hide behind our Constitutional rights while despising, undermining, and desiring to destory them at the same time. Shove that t-shirt where the sun don't shine and beat feet out of the USofA back to the barbarians you sprang from.
I love to see it when the passengers take matters into their own hands, do the "profiling" themselves, and refuse to board the planes with those they suspect might be up to no good.
Since the government and the airlines fear the ACLU and so far are too polically correct to profile, the passengers themselves must do it for the sake of their own safety.
The fastest way to force the P C issue is for people to refuse to board (or force the plane to turn back) when they feel uncomfortable.
This is their plan, but I don't believe that it is new.
In 1996, Abdulrahman Alamoudi, tellingly said at an Islamic conference in Chicago: Once we are here, our mission in this country is to change it.... There is no way for Muslims to be violent in America, no way. We have other means to do it
They have several ways they will use to "change" our country. Killing 1-15 here and there is but one way. The real elephant in the room that everyone has ignored.....
"I will pursue this incident today through a Constitutional rights organization, and I am sure we will meet soon".
IT WILL BE THROUGH THE COURTS that they will conquer us when we have the audacity to try to preserve our culture.
It's a media war.
The ENEMEDIA are just the willing accomplices.
Yes, our hearts bleed for you, Raed. Better run back to those authoritarian regimes you are so nostalgic for and leave the big bad US.
I would be curious to know who these passengers were. Were they really just random passengers, or were they part of his "contingent", IOW code pinkos, calling in to cause the denial of his "constitutional rights" to wear a t-shirt, in order to set up a discrimination lawsuit?
This Guy is a Ba'aathist, holds a damn green card, married to an Iranian 2d generation "American"woman. He danced with joy at each GI killed. Raed Jarrar is a swine, he should have been deported. Unfortunately, our buddies at state find him the right kind of woggie.
"I'm seeing a trend here of muslims "getting up in our face" now."
Not totally unlike the illegal aliens trying to force us into giving them everything they want too.
Since the constitution was adopted. It can be found right next to the right to deny service to any airline passenger for any reason the owners of the airline decide.
I thought this guy was from the US?
My bet is that he staged the whole thing as civil disobedience to play the victim and get brownie points from his Imam.
Really?..try being an American living in your islamic crapholes......headless and dead....nimrod.
Well, boo hoo. Get in line. I've been pulled over for a secondary search (overweight bag). Most people have been at least once, especially if they fly regularly. On my last flight, roughly every 6th person was pulled aside (we counted while we waited), somewhat or seemingly randomly. Almost none appeared to be Arab men in t-shirts with Arabic script. It's because of the actions of certain Arabic men that we have more scrutiny. So is he trying to say he's outraged and somehow profiled?
I believe he was arrested by the new Iraqi government and then given political asylum in the US. He should have been hung.
