Police officers kill one suspect -- city urged to declare a crisis

An explosion of violence in San Francisco's southeastern corner left five people dead, including a man and woman shot in their car on a Bayview district street and the gang member who police say attacked them.

The suspect was killed in a gunbattle with police shortly after he shot the two, a 42-year-old cement-truck driver from San Francisco and a 50-year-old woman from Fremont, authorities said.

The victims in three separate incidents Sunday also included a 21-year-old San Francisco man who was shot dead in the Portola neighborhood as he drove a friend home after a night playing Monopoly, and an 18-year-old who was shot to death while working on his car on Potrero Hill.

The violence prompted calls at City Hall for officials to declare a state of crisis in San Francisco. Mayor Gavin Newsom responded that his administration had already tried several measures to cut crime and that "all of us" need to work harder.

The killings brought San Francisco's homicide total for the year to 62 -- a pace that if continued would about reach last year's total of 96, which was the city's bloodiest year in a decade.

How could there have been people shot in San Francisco? It is a non-violent gay city with no guns. /sarc

What a quagmire! I want an immediate time table for the pull out. And, while they are at it, since the police killed this freedom fighter...this insurgent who is only fighting against the tyranical, oppressive establishment that the US has set up there in San Francisco, I believe there should be an immediate investigation and these officers should be held in Quantico in chains until their hearing. Have the same problem in the 'burgh. I heard somewhere here that our homicide rate is higher than it was same time last year...we get the usual wringing of the hands and gnashing of teeth every time such a statistic is published. But really what do you do? Oh, I know...take the guns away from law abiding citizens. Yeah, that's it.

Probably just a domestic dispute -- over a purloined feather boa -- that spilled out into the streets.

Wow. That's a powerful video. Any follow-up on which judges were at fault, and what has become of their careers?

Mayor Gavin Newsom responded that his administration had already tried several measures to cut crime

Isn't this the city that keeps passing resolutions against efforts to curb terror. Isn't this the city who proudly accepts illegals and isn't this the city who routinely flauts federal law, refuses to rein in panhandlers, aggressive homeless etc.

A lawless city has to expect lawless behavior from it's citizens. Good luck San Francisco, you're going to need it.

"Mayor Gavin Newsom responded that his administration had already tried several measures to cut crime"

Why worry about crime and guns when you have a more important issue at hand; legalizing gay marriage!
