Rumsfeld: Terrorists manipulating media

Later, at a Reno, Nev., convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Rumsfeld made similar points.

"The enemy lies constantly — almost totally without penalty," he told the veterans group, which presented him with the Dwight D. Eisenhower Distinguished Service Award. "They portray our cause as a war on Islam when in fact the overwhelming majority of victims of their terrorism have been the thousands and thousands of innocent Muslims — men, women and children — that they have killed."

It also bears repeating that twice as many Iraqi military/police [more than 5200] have died in defense of their country than American troops in Iraq. The indiscriminate killing of civilians is being done by Muslim terrorists.

Five years as Sec Def conducting a war would wear on a man 20 years younger.

I do agree with his statement and think that he has been great at the job, but he is tired, you can see and hear it.

I was at Fallon yesterday and met the SecDef in person. He seemed pretty spry to me. He is smart, committed, and unlike most of the people in this country he is ready to see this through to the end.

A couple aircraft took off right at the end of his comments, causing him to pause due to the noise. He got a big smile on his face and said we should all be out there doing that instead of sitting in a hangar listening to him.

Without exception Rumsfeld is the guy I want in that job. He talks for the military which isn't allowed to have a voice in this argument. He doesn't mince words and he speaks the truth.
