Recovering Freeper in Need

Dear Rob,
"Cheated" twice with a couple beers a couple times over the last couple days, though, nominally, it'll be three weeks "clean" on Tuesday. This adds to guilt, but is the only way I can get myself relaxed enough to keep from bawling out of extremely-uncool and undeserved self-pity.
I'm under great medical observation, and a crapload of antidepressants [x,y, and z].
Tell me, Rob, what it is I'm recovering "from" and why, since this world is such a [messed up] place? When I was a drunk, sure, I'd be moody in the mornings, productive at work (and I NEVER drank during the day), and everyone's friend once I got home. Now it's just constant depression and having to face a [messed] up world (with way too many liberals in it .
I'm a very proud, spiritual Christian, but I'm even too ashamed to pray, at least at length, since both He and I know that I am the problem.
The real abstraction here is if this horrid beautiful watery place is better with or without my presence. That last sentence isn't a "cry for help - please hug me I'm hurting, Oprah" throwaway - it's a serious question about which me is better: the happy, intoxicated, likely-to-be-shorter-lived friend of everyone, or the stoic, medicated, spooked, depressed sober me who no one will ever trust again since he had such "deep issues".
What I need is reason/cognition/rationalization, and maybe I'll increase my [x] or extend it for a couple more weeks.
You're an Internet pal, trustworthy by sheer virtue of being a Conservative, and, your advice and wisdom is easier to follow exactly because I do NOT know you personally.
If you don't mind redacting my screenname, feel free to poll/ping the Recovery List. I'll "come out" when I'm ready, I promise.
God Bless You and have a great week,

Thank you so much for that link! I've also heard only good things about this ministry. I hadn't yet set aside the time to look them up on the Web, so your link is most appreciated, especially here.

If you give up now you will never know what wonderful things are meant for everyone - if you have the courage to continue on the path. I commend your post!

I'm so very sorry for the pain you are experiencing. It sounds so trite, but I'm not nearby to just hug and cry with you or to help you minister to your husband; my heart goes out to you and I would build you up - I'm reading Randy Alcorn's book,
Heaven, and I've been recommending it to many: If you and your husband are in Jesus, and if you will, with Jesus, look to "the joy that waits beyond," (Hebrews 11-12) you will "not grieve as those who have no hope." (1 Thes. 4) We do have hope, and death has been overcome by the power and love of God in Jesus Christ - He was crucified, buried, and rose the third day, all according to the Scriptures; the passionate love of God for His Creation is displayed for all to see and partake of. I realize all too well that this Good News does not make the pain of good-bye go away - having to say good-bye is very painful. There
is comfort for those who mourn, and knowing and clinging to the Promises of God, to God Himself through His Word and Spirit, has brought me personally through many mournings. I had to look to what was unseen by faith in the midst of the trial, and that's what I love about the
Heaven book: it is all the promises of Our Mighty God and Loving Father from the Bible about the very real place called Heaven, both the one that is now and the New Heaven and New Earth to come, and how we can know we are going there by faith. There will be a resurrection, and there will be many joyfilled reunions, and there will be a Day when there is no more pain, no more death, no more tears.
God grant you strong faith, hope and love as you walk with your beloved along this journey.

Thanks so much for the scripture. God's promises and love is the only thing that is going to see us through these terrible times.

Thanks again for the reminder. Yes, we are both believers, evangelicals, but the pain of giving up a loved one is excruciating, and even though I am trying not to question, it is human to do so.
Thanks again for the comforting words, I can feel the love of Jesus coming through them.

Thanks for your positive words both of you.
I love when people know they need to reach out - and I love how people responded here.
Honest, in your face, steady, right-on caring and partnership. We could use a dose of this kind of pep talk for hitting the road each day even when we are not in trouble.
Best results for you all in tomorrow's big day. I still don't have my vote yet but I can wish all of you godspeed....until
I can join the fray!!!

There is comfort and power in Psalm 18, particularly verse 17:
"He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me."
The righteousness in verses 20 - 24 is the righteousness that is imputed to believers through the blood of Jesus. That makes turning your life to Jesus, repenting of your self - sins, failings, and all - and accepting his forgiveness Step One.

I am asking each of you to please say a prayer for another Freeper who has contacted me and who is resolved to quit drinking before it is too late. Please pray for him to be able to resist temptation...
