A couple of years ago I was reading through my favorite book, Roget's Thesaurus.
Unbelievably, I came across the word, Clinquant.
"CLINQUANT" -- among the meanings of the word were: "fake, cheat, sham, fraud, phony, imposter".
I always felt that CLINQUANT should be adopted here in the FR Lexicon as the fitting word for the Clintons. It surely fits -- fake, cheat, sham, fraud, phony, imposter.

I'm busy repeating the word and meaning of the word to myself; it's a good one to have in one lexicon, BTS.
However, I must quibble with you in a wee way: The Clintons =are= indeed Americans, grown and fostered in the fertile soils of dishonor, grown from bad American policy many years earlier. Do they belie and betray and American dream and its founding Values? YES. Are they ernest? No. Do they lead others astray from time-value virtues? YES. Quibble done.
The values of the Clintons are clinquant.

I've included the word as it appears to be catching on. However, I expanded the definition. Here's how it will appear:
Clinquant - Used as another term for the Clintons, those of similar character, or expressing such characteristics. Among the meanings of the word were: fake, cheat, sham, fraud, phony, impostor.

Clinquant: the Schlickmeister, the Stain. There are others but I forget them right now.
