Best and worst commercials of the year
MSNBC ^ | Aug 22, 2006 | Gael Fashingbauer Cooper

Posted on 08/22/2006 6:50:44 PM PDT by indcons

Only one commercial can top the sheer hatred our readers have for the winner of this year's worst-commercial contest. Yes, only creepy, toenail-snapping Digger the Dermatophyte is more hated than the horrendous repetition that is this year's winning loser, the HeadOn headache remedy commercial.

In case you haven't seen it (you can find it on YouTube, but really, why would you want to?), the commercial is as insanely simple as it is annoying. A female voice repeats "HeadOn: Apply directly to the forehead!" three times as a blissed-out smug woman rolls what appears to be a Bonne Bell LipSmacker on her head.

What in the name of a glue stick in disguise is going on there? First off, does anyone believe that this works any better than, say, rubbing your head with your hand? Who decided that a commercial where only the product name and tagline are repeated over and over was good advertising? What kind of drugs is the model in the ad actually on? And does anyone know anyone who has ever, ever used this product, or seen it for sale anywhere outside these ads?

I enjoy the Fedex commercial where it shows a group of yes men sitting around a table. The board chairman asks for cost cutting ideas, and a person speaks up and says "well, we could logon to Fedex.com and save 15% in shipping costs" The chairman ignores him and afew seconds later comes up with the same exactly worded idea, and all the yes men say great idea chief.

ESPECIALLY RADIO ADS!!!!! A siren or horn honk in a radio commercial gets me everytime.... I hate em!

The first time I heard Huey Lewis & The News' "The Heart of Rock & Roll" on my stereo, my heart jumped. After the first line about New York, a car horn blasts through both channels. I thought I was going to get rear-ended.

Here's to Mr Giant Taco Salad Inventor,
only you can create a 13,000 calorie salad!
Hamburger, sour cream, guacamole, cheese, nachos, refried beans, olives, and if there's room, a few shreds of lettuce.
If someone says "Is your taco salad healthy?" you say of course it is, its a salad, isn't?

I have always liked Little Richard...and I always will, I suppose...I just get the biggest kick out of him...You and I may be a minority, but heck, thats the way things go...

You should come down to Macon, Georgia.... you could drive on Little Richard Penniman Boulevard every day!

Now thats funny...I never realized that Little Richard had a street named after him...but heck, when someone becomes famous, it often happens, that either his home town, or a place he lived in for a long time, will name a street after that person...

I remember several years ago, when I was in Chicago, I happened to land on a street, called Pope John Paul Street...of course, Pope JohnPaul was not from Chicago, however, the area where this street was, was a huge Polish area, evidenced by signs in the stores being in both Polish and English, and one hearing Polish being spoken all over the area, as often as hearing English...In fact, I think I once heard, that Chicago is second only to Warsaw, in the numbers of Polish people that they have living there...so it was appropriate that this particular street was renamed in honor of Pope JohnPaul...

Yep, his hometown decided to honor him with the Little Richard Penniman Boulevard Downtown Connector. The sign is almost longer than the road!

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Little+Richard+Penniman+Boulevard,+Macon,+GA&ie=UTF8&om=1&ll=32.831279,-83.64428&spn=0.019401,0.043259

Speaking of Pope John Paul Street... We've got Pio Nono Avenue just to the west there, named for Pope Pius IX (although with our southern drawls, it's called Pie-uh Nono, instead of Pee-oh Nono). If you scroll to the north, you'll see that it suddenly changes from "Pio Nono Avenue" to "Pierce Avenue" when it crosses Vineville. That's because the Baptist Church sits at that corner, and years ago they had the city change the name so that the Baptist Church wouldn't have an address with a Pope's name on it!

I would love to see that one! We don't have Hardees around L.A. yet. Ate there while near the coastal east. They should open one around here. With ads like that, they will multiply quickly. The one with the doctor's office can be re-done in Spanish:)

They probably pulled that ad. Too many guys eating big cheeseburgers just stomping down the street together and too many women looking longingly at them for what they have. All with background music from the old "I Am Woman" song to "I Am Man". That must have stirred up a bunch of old bag feminists around here in L.A.

Those days are over because there is fun being made of them.

Good night, I must rise at 4:30 AM as usual:(

I realize it's someone else's money, but I'd like to see some more commercial spoofs of the the femihags.
