ADL Blasts Christian Supremacist TV Special & Book Blaming Darwin For Hitler

New York, NY, August 22, 2006 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today blasted a television documentary produced by Christian broadcaster Dr. D. James Kennedy's Coral Ridge Ministries that attempts to link Charles Darwin's theory of evolution to Adolf Hitler and the atrocities of the Holocaust. ADL also denounced Coral Ridge Ministries for misleading Dr. Francis Collins, the director of the National Human Genome Research Institute for the NIH, and wrongfully using him as part of its twisted documentary, "Darwin's Deadly Legacy."

After being contacted by the ADL about his name being used to promote Kennedy's project, Dr. Collins said he is "absolutely appalled by what Coral Ridge Ministries is doing. I had NO knowledge that Coral Ridge Ministries was planning a TV special on Darwin and Hitler, and I find the thesis of Dr. Kennedy's program utterly misguided and inflammatory," he told ADL.

ADL National Director Abraham H. Foxman said in a statement:"This is an outrageous and shoddy attempt by D. James Kennedy to trivialize the horrors of the Holocaust. Hitler did not need Darwin to devise his heinous plan to exterminate the Jewish people. Trivializing the Holocaust comes from either ignorance at best or, at worst, a mendacious attempt to score political points in the culture war on the backs of six million Jewish victims and others who died at the hands of the Nazis.

"It must be remembered that D. James Kennedy is a leader among the distinct group of 'Christian Supremacists' who seek to "reclaim America for Christ" and turn the U.S. into a Christian nation guided by their strange notions of biblical law."

The documentary is scheduled to air this weekend along with the publication of an accompanying book "Evolution's Fatal Fruit: How Darwin's Tree of Life Brought Death to Millions."

A Coral Ridge Ministries press release promoting the documentary says the program "features 14 scholars, scientists, and authors who outline the grim consequences of Darwin's theory of evolution and show how his theory fueled Hitler's ovens."

>>>Sorry, but I've come across several evangelicals who think Kennedy is smarmy and frequently engages in deep intellectual dishonesty.<<<

Kennedy has proven to me to be thorough on every subject he preaches. I have never heard him rely exclusively on his own knowledge of a subject, but rather to defer to outside experts for verification or clarification. He is very knowledgable on the religion of the Founding Fathers, and on evolution.

Frankly, this hit piece by Abe Foxman is nothing new. He hates Christians, and he hates the notion that this is a Christian nation.

Is'nt that a roaches philosophy?

You are not aware that the gas chambers in the Nazi deathcamps were manned by people who considered Christian morality trivial, uninteresting, and certainly not applicable in a modern, scientific age ~ their "biologists" had already determined that humanity's "sub humans" should be exterminated.

Alas, I bet you knew that but just wanted to distract us for a moment.

Good points all. However, if you read the page orionblamblam linked, you'll find that it (not obb) was the source of the parenthetical comments.

I think (and you might even agree) the quotes themselves, ignoring the commentary, fully justify the analysis that orionblamblam did offer (blocked off from his cut and paste):

None of this says that Hitler was a Christian in any real sense. But it *does* provide good evidence that he was influenced by Christianity.

>>>You attack Foxman. According to your logic, you are anti-semitic. Do you see what I mean now? <<<

No. Foxman is a Jew In Name Only (a JINO). Foxman's sole purpose in life is to destroy Christianity in America, while pretending to be a defender of the Holocaust.

>>>The only people I love in this world are Christians.<<<

Then why are you defending a Christian hater like Foxman?

>>>Again you see persecution all around you.<<<

Says who, you? Get a clue.

>>>I argue against bad logic, and admonish against personal attacks.<<<

But more than anything, you are in love with yourself.

>>>The idiot says that Nazism and a belief in evolution are one and the same. If I were Dr. Collins I'd sue the SOB for false representation, slander, or whatever.<<<

If I was you I would spend some time researching the subject before running off at the mouth. James Kennedy certainly did, as did all the experts he included in his book and broadcast.

They were also Conquistadores and helped bring enlightenment to a people living in darkness [emphasis added].

Do you have any clue as to the death rate due to the Spanish conquest you seem to be supporting...?

One example; for the Spanish mission areas of California the death rate during the mission era alone was about 90%.

That "enlightenment" you support sent the majority of the population to their graves.

Actually I thought muawiyah's comments in #158 quite apt and reasonable, at least with respect to the parenthetical comment he chose to focus on. Has this one behaved trollishly in the past? Maybe. I don't have a terribly good memory for that sort of thing, and tend to give folks a chance to start anew with each thread.

There is one behaving extraordinarily trollishly, and just lately, in this thread however. Although it may not be its intent. It may just be too oblivious, and paranoid, and a certain kind of "hole," to realize it's a troll.

No you didn't. Too self absorbed to keep track of who you're posting too?

Just a little dig, that. In fact I've made the same mistake.

However the comment about your exorbitant, haughty (and generally inaccurate) expertise in others... Not just a dig. Not terribly perspicuous either though. Apologies to all for commenting the obvious.

Yeah, and if you'd bother to study the matter you would have discovered that even if every Conquistidor stood shoulder to shoulder and all the Indians had begun advancing on them at a normal walking rate, the normal Indian birthrate would have overwhelmed the death rate the Conquistidores could have inflicted.

The general scientific concensus is that the Indians were killed by Old World disease. A more recent discovery is that they were killed to an even greater degree by a Hanta virus native to the Americas.

The English created quite a bit of nasty propaganda about the Spanish, French and others who went to the Americas and blamed them for every sort of crime, including many of their own. Do not be misled by the "English Filter".

Quite a lengthy thread on this topic, on FR, in fact.

Yup ~ and in every popular science periodical at the newsstands, and in several peer reviewed journals.

I was quite surprised to see the hanta virus thing since the 85% to 95% death rates were expressed in a New England setting in the 1640s through a combination of smallpox, mumps, measles and what was probably influenza.

There were no Spaniards around to kill the Indians in that location of course ~ just whole big bunches of Englishmen!

Given all this information it's simply amazing we still have people walking around with this "Spaniards killed 'em" idea.
