Republicans relish the prospect of Hillary Clinton running for president in 2008, just so they can vote against her, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani was quoted as saying.
Giuliani, who is expected to be a leading candidate for the Republican Party nomination, described the New York senator and former first lady as a polarising force who ignited strong passions across the political spectrum, the New York Post reported.
"Democrats seem to support her as their main candidate for president -- she's way ahead of anybody else -- and it seems like Republicans are just waiting for her to be the candidate so they can vote against her," he said.
"She definitely creates passions on both sides," he added.
"Hillary probably has the distinction of being the best fundraiser for the Democratic Party -- and the best fundraiser for the Republican Party," he said.
Clinton has yet to officially state her intention to run, but has been tipped as the leading Democratic hope, ahead of other potential candidates such as husband Bill Clinton's vice president Al Gore, former senator John Edwards and 2004 candidate John Kerry.
A poll in Time Magazine, however, suggested that she would be pipped in a head to head challenge by top Republican contender Senator John McCain.
I believe it does. McCain's example is one of admirable fortitude; Giuliani's is one of leadership on the very issue we are now confronting.
The problem is that Rudy won't say anything on issues until after the November election. So all we can go on is what he felt when he was mayor of NYC. He said recently that 9/11 changed him and I'm sure it did. But how much I don't know.
Laughing? I would be crying, not laughing.
Unless and until a credible national conservative emerges on the GOP side....well, see my tagline....
And no, I would NOT vote for McCain over Rudy...because McCain is a nut....
All things considered, the more quiet any of them are for now, the better chance they've got. What needs to happen is for Hillary to be taken out. [/and shot]
Someone told me that McCain divorced a perfectly good woman to marry a nutjob. Think it's true?
Well, I don't know except that McCain admitted that he was unfaithful to his first wife after his return from 'Nam. He divorced her and then married an uber-wealthy Arizona heiress...don't know any other details...frankly, I could care less...its his stance on the issues that bothers me...
So in other words, he's too dense to understand the simple meaning of the 2nd Amendment. Why would anyone trust him with appointing judges and justices?
I guess Rudy won't wait for the elections to start taking swipes at Hillary.
Even the part base that is wary of him will like this.
Jeez...he's sharp.
Bumps UP!!! Hi, AreaFiftyOne.
Go, Rudy, Go! :)
I love it. He's been waiting a long time to take swipes at her.
Point me to 'em, wouldja? I love swipes at her.
Fear sells more than performance.
I'll never understand one issue voters on family matters.
Republicans can't wait to vote against Hillary & GiulianiThere, that's better.
I'm very much pro-life, but it's not primary to me only because I don't believe morality can be legislated. Even if Roe v Wade can be overturned, it won't stop abortion. Because there are people who have moral standards that are not the same as mine.
And your NON-vote would go for Hillary.
Think there's no difference? Think again.
Rudy and Joe Lieberman are pretty much identical.
