U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., says the United States is not winning the war in Iraq and he still thinks more troops are needed on the ground.
McCain, a possible GOP presidential candidate in 2008, appeared Sunday on NBC News' "Meet the Press."
Asked whether the United States was winning the war, McCain said, "I don't think so, but I'm not sure that it's turned into a civil war ... I think it's been well documented now that we didn't have enough (troops) there from the beginning, that we allowed the looting, that we did not have control, particularly ... (in areas such as) the Sunni Triangle, which led to us paying a very heavy price."
McCain said U.S. troops must be able to deal with the insurgency, particularly Shiite militias.
He reaffirmed his stand that U.S. troops should not withdraw. "I want to emphasize that we cannot lose this," McCain said. "It will cause chaos in Iraq and in the region, and ... we must prevail."
McCain & Russert should just get a room already & leave us alone.
Looting????
Why didn't he bring up the U.N. black helicopters or Jenin massacre while he was at it?
Oh well, hilllary will need a running mate.....
I was asked if I was attending the fundraising event and told the person they don't have enough money to pay me to attend. I would never make it through a complete speech of McCain's without walking out in disgust.
Our favorite (sarcasm) person is at it again!
In 1864 you would have been asking Lincoln why the war wasn't yet over. In 1790 similiar questions predicated on the negatives would have been directed at Washington. Hamilton would have been asked why we didn't have a complete public finance system. Roosevelt would have been asked in 1944 why Japan had not surrendered.
We are looking at a short time frame and expecting gigantic changes to occur within it. Changes of the magnitude we are working for will take decades, if not centuries.
Now what solution would he have to offer? Notice how he announces that We are losing the war, but offers no futher solution, leaving his options "open." I would agree with you accept McCain has not recommended an increase of trrops on the ground and attacks on Iranian operatives inside Iraq, as well as direct interdiction and harassment of Iraqi military resources. McCain knows what should be done, he isn't saying it, because Iran is using the same techniques used by North Vietnam to try and defeat the US in Iraq. Its the same old dual standard where we won't acknoledge the problem, Iraq, and go after them outside their own borders like we should have in Laos with the North Vietnamese.
I have no trust in McCain, nor do any true conservatives. He is finished as a presidential candidate, with this announcement.
To stop the Iranians they must be militarily destroyed ASAP.
There is no other solution.
Sure is a lot of hot air coming from the mouths of would be RINO candidates. Hagel has about as much chance of becoming the nominee as I do. McPain, slightly more.
You are spot on. But I think there were only a few hundred kamikaze's and there are literally millions of jihadist who will strap on a vest and blow up a portion of a mall near you or me...America does not know this kind of fear yet..but i fear one day they will see it.
McCain was on one of those Sunday morning talk shows....You're kidding? (obvious sarcasm)
"McVain" is politically fashion-concious and MSM-dependent...not exactly strong-leadership material...
Wish I knew how to repost your "headline" in large, bold words. MEGA-BUMP!
I just received an "Emergency Survey Document" in the mail from the RNC, on the letterhead of George Allen.
I sent it back to him, with most of the questions changed..daring him to answer me.
The first question was on "NATIONAL DEFENSE AND HOMELAND SECURITY": "Do you agree that we should give out troops the chance to finish the job in Iraq and give the all the support they need for Thur mission"?
Political Speech! I told him as much..I said send me another that reads: "Do yo agree that we should give our troops the chance to KILL THE ENEMY WITHOUT FEAR OF POLITICALY CORRECT OUTRAGE, COURT TRIALS AND JAIL TIME?
Second question "Would you support military action against any nation known to be harboring terrorists or aiding terrorist organizations?
Political Speech! I told him as much..I said send me another that reads: "WOULD YOU DEMAND MILITARY ACTION against any nation known to be harboring terrorists or aiding terrorists without seeking PERMISSION from the corrupt, irrelevant U.N.?
I would encourage anyone who gets these PC Surveys from the RNC..to change the question to suit the problem and send it back to the Letterhead addressee.
The loser in McCain's scenario is McCain. A daddy's boy still trying to fly an airplane.
McCain is really a self absorbed little Jerk.
The biggest problem is the cut and run MSM, libs and dems. Their cowardly statements cause the people of Iraq to think that we will not stay around to help them so they feel obliged to take up arms on their own. In addition, these statements cause the instigators of violence (Iran, Al-Qaida, ...) to believe that they will be able to drive the US out if they just keep up the pressure.
Polls seem to show that the people of the US gutlessly agree with the cut and run cowards further inflaming the violence.
McCain is an armchair quarterback.
