PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President and Mrs. Bush are spending the weekend at Camp David. Look for the First Lady to be on the campaign trail a lot in the next few months. Republican National Committee spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt said that Mrs. Bush is a significant draw wherever she goes, and is a critical asset to Republican candidates across the country. According to the RNC, so far this campaign season, the First Lady has appeared at 24 political events and raised $10.7 million for the party and Republican candidates. Last week, she campaigned in Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia.
THE WEEK AHEAD: Next week's daily scheduled was not announced by White House Press Secretary Tony Snow. However, next week the President will visit his family home in Kennebunkport, Maine, for the first time in two years. GWB and the First Lady are scheduled to arrive Thursday at Walker's Point, where they will be spending the weekend with GWB's parents at their summer retreat. The first couple will be in town to attend a relative's wedding, said Tom Frechette, spokesman for the president's father. While at Walker's Point, the President typically goes fishing and golfing.
EXTENDED SCHEDULE:
_ Sept. 7, First Lady Laura Bush will visit Norfolk to attend a campaign rally for U.S. Rep. Thelma Drake._ Sept. 14, President Bush will welcome President Roh Moo-hyun of the Republic of Korea to the White House.
_ Oct. 10, President Bush will welcome President Alan Garcia of Peru to the White House.
Glad the cold is going as you need to be on top of your game at the moment. :0)
Hi homemom - I fixed a scrumptious dinner and ate too much of it. Orange chicken, fried potatoes and onions, and lima beans. Now I'm paying for my gluttony. How are you?
Thanks for all the photos, but the second one on post #9, with all the troops reaching for and touching Pres. Bush, is really great - and it makes me think his Secret Service men must go crazy at these events where he just plunges into the crowd. LOL!
Freep me the recipe sounds wonderful - thanks.
You gave me your beefburger recipe a while back but I seem to have lost it.
Could you please send it to me again. Also could you use lamb, pork or turkey mince instead of beef as dad does not eat beef?
Very cool that while the Prez hugs a soldier (I cry when he does that) the soldier next to him is on the phone to tell of his nearness to the Commander in Chief!
The bravest, most brilliant people on this planet are members of the U.S. military! Thank God for each of them!
Wicked! Wicked! LOL! You're making my mouth water, Gretchen! A meal improved only with squares of thick-crusted Southern cornbread! Yum!
Thanks, homemom and snugs. And thanks, snugs, for the great picture! I love to see Mr VP smiling like that.
The orange chicken, or the fried potatoes and onions?
No rant at all. What you said is stone cold true.
There are a lot of Bush and Walker cousins. Walker was the maiden name of George Herbert Walker Bush, if I'm not mistaken. I think Walker's Point belonged to her family and went into the Bush family on her marriage to Prescott Bush.
Anyway, that's a long way of saying there are plenty of cousins from both sides of the Bush-Walker family, plus GWB's mother, Barbara's, family.
Sounds like me. I have to consciously make myself drink enough fluids through the day.
Absolutely. I was very frustrated the last 10 days having this cold at this time. :(
That seems to be the consensus favorite among the group I posted yesterday. It's a great shot, that's for sure.
I love that photo. (If I were eligible for a toaster, that would be the one I'd want.) You're right...it's so interesting to see the contrast between the soldier hugging the President and the one next to him on the cell phone. He's probably describing the scene to his mom or wife or best buddy. Extremely poignant, especially since the soldiers were on their way to Iraq and harms way.
late but not unhappy - great pics!
gee, I didn't see a lot of these is the media...
/s
Grin...yeah, the media can only whine about our stupidwarmongeringinarticulate President who, despite being a stupidwarmonger, nevertheless cagily got us into a warforoil. Sheesh, but the MSM are collectively dumber than a box of rocks...wait, make that: the MSM thinks the American people are collectively dumber than a box of rocks.
