N. Korean Authorities Urge Civilians to Evacuate Near Site of Possible Nuke Test (Breaking)
Headline News Yahooo Japan (in Japanese) JIJI PRESS ^ | 19 August 2006 | JIJI Press, quoting Joongang Ilbo Daily

Posted on 08/18/2006 7:46:33 PM PDT by AmericanInTokyo

Reports from Seoul Korea, (daily newspaper Joongang Ilbo in Seoul) via the Japanese Jiji press agency, that South Korean intelligence has intercepted radio messages/communications in North Korea, which were aired last month, to civilians in the Kilju County, Northern Hamgyeong Province area of northeastern D.P.R.K., to evacuate.

The source in the South Korean government said "our interpretation is that following North Korea's underground nuclear blast test, they wish to head off any escape of radiation that would be a threat to the nearby civilian population and are evacuating as such."

Not to worry. I get these notices all the time in my neighborhood. "Notice: We may or may not conduct a nuclear test in your area today, so you may or may not wish to evacuate."

Obviously, you need to move to the other side of Las Vegas!

What's the President prepared to do to stop Kim? How about Russian and China.

Inaction is speaking volumes here. About Russia and China's agenda, and about what a direct response against NK would mean in terms of the US's relations with them.

I believe we are quietly now on a war footing with Russia and China.

China should know that it might have an impact on trade with them. And the russians should pay to dispose of their own nukes. They make enough on oil they can do it themselves.

weren't the missle tests a failure?

No. One failed, but the rest went just fine.

When I look at pictures of heavyset generals with acres of metal medals bedecking the whole front of their uniforms, when I see parade grounds with tens of thousands of highstepping men superbly uniformed with ribbons and fancy decorations, I see a military that is dedicated to the garrison life and the trivial orders of Major Frank Burns.

The fight will not stay in them long.

.....and now they are demonstrating the warhead for them too?.....

The thought crossing the Iranian purchasing agent mind must be "the missle failed. Wonder how good they are at tunnel plugging?"

You are right. We fought them already. They weren't very tough, fierce fighters 1950-53 as it turned out. Just like the Viet Cong, those cowards. They did not have the fight in them to win. It was actually really a synch. They were (and will be) such pushovers, weren't they??

The thought crossing the Iranian purchasing agent mind must be "the missle failed.

Actually...they only had one missile have a problem, and that was after it burned much longer than previously reported. Not 20 seconds, not 40, but almost 4 minutes. All the other 6 of 7 missiles worked completely fine...and demonstrated accuracy that was beyond anything previously shown by North Korea...

I recommend you check this thread out: Six Scuds and a Dud - Why should we care?

Wonder how good they are at tunnel plugging?"

More likely they thought..."wonder how good the Israelis' and Americans will be at living in bunkers...or if they even realize what's coming until it will be just too late for the Infidels...Praise Allah!"

Wait, weren't the missle tests a failure?

Check out the thread...Six Scuds and a Dud: Why Should We Care?

We definitely should care.

I read the thread and understand your point.

The scuds are very old technology. The failed missle is new. It failed.

The nuclear technology is new to them. A first underground test is not the time to be on a reviewing stand and wittness a tunnel plug failure resulting from failed engineering.
