Um, well, we didn't technically liberate Eastern Europe, for starters.

Um, well, some are grateful.

Anyway betcha he doesn't show up for Jimmy Carter's funeral.

I wasn't implying that they weren't grateful for the end of the Cold War and the removal of the Soviets looming over them...and I personally know a lot of people from the former Soviet bloc who lived in absolute terror that they would basically be the first victims in a hot war between us and the Soviets.

The shame of the matter is now that in some of the former Soviet satellite states, their economies are struggling and there is a resurgence amongst the politicians and some of the populaces to return to communism, although even if it does happen, it'll probably more resemble various European models of socialist democracies.

Welcome to FR. I hope the Mods let you stay. I think you may have some hope to come the right side.

One thing you should have already noticed during your lurking here on FR is the incredible logic and astounding humor that FReepers have. Stick around.

-- --

You are the first liberal I've seen on this site who was actually not a frothing fountain of hate and abject stupidity.

Now for your comment, That guy in the story was not normal, he was suffering from a disease. It was a mentally driven disease that was suspected of causing him to act out his anti-social behavior.

This just happens to be the general theory of what drives liberalism in the United States. However, I think there are several drivers that cause people to be liberal (I used to be liberal when I was young).

1. Indoctrination by parents or peers.
2. Mental disease.
3. Lack of education on what conservatives actually stand for: self determination, freedom, and responsibility, which all go hand in hand.
4. Lack of education on what liberalism stands for: ultimate govenrment control, restrictions on other's freedom, and their shirking of any form of responsibility.

Most libs don't understand that freedom means EVERYONE is free.

They think, as in this instance, "OK, I'm free to have sex with a disabled kid", neglecting that all other people have their freedom too, such as the freedom from being accosted by such a sick bastard.

Thanks for the welcome...the Mods here actually will boot people for being liberal? Hopefully only the frothing at the mouth types, and I do try to behave.

As for that story, yes, I'm aware that his was the result of a tumor, and there have been other cases where people have been in car accidents and the like, and that was the reason for posting it, really. To show that there is a whole lot about our brain chemistry and biology that we really have no understanding of yet, but we're getting closer, and things like that might actually point to a way where we can possibly eradicate this kind of twisted stuff.

As for your drivers for people to be liberal, good stuff. I can say that my parents weren't liberal, and so far as I'm aware, I'm not mentally diseased! What bugs me so much about the whole liberal/conservative debate really is the way in which the whole thing gets blown out of proportion on just a handful of issues, and both sides are equally guilty of this. For the most part, most of us would probably agree on just about everything. But liberals do understand freedom...we prize it too, we just prize other types of freedoms. I mean, as an example, I'm an anthropologist by profession, so I'm always off traveling around and making phone calls all over the world, and as I do my work around violence, I will talk about a lot of horrible stuff on the phone just in the nature of doing my work. Occassionally that means that I have to call colleagues in Sri Lanka, or Pakistan or wherever they may be, and I don't want the government to be able to just listen in on my phone calls. I've got absolutely nothing to hide, and if they want to do it, they can do it legally and spend the 10 minutes it takes to get a warrant...but I want that thing signed first.

Well if we didn't liberate them why should they be grateful to us Americans?

At least the ones who voted for Reagan :-)

BTW, welcome to FR and I hope you stick around.

but I for one do not like the idea of American exceptionalism...it's hubris, to put it lightly.

No it's not. It is your contempt for America disguised as intellectual superiority that is hubris.

America is exceptional.

No other country has been as welcoming to anyone, as egalitarian, as full of opportunity, as economically produtive or as willing to die for OTHER people to have the same chance.

Your contempt for your country makes me sick.

Well, no.

In my post I alluded to why libs get the boot:

"You are the first liberal I've seen on this site who was actually not a frothing fountain of hate and abject stupidity."

>Do you believe that other forms of brain damage can cause other sorts of personality disorders? Or is it just limited to pedophilia/sexuality in general you don't believe it exists? Like I said in my earlier post, I'm not trying to be antagonistic....this guys deserves the worst he can get...but in some cases, there is plenty of evidence for it.<

This is an interesting point. That said, like mentally ill individuals who murder, such people should be locked away for the good of society. A finding of "not guilty by reason of insanity", with institutionalization for life, will keep the rest of the citizens safe.

And also, there is good reason to believe that there is a biological link to pedophilia

I understand...

There is a sound genetic link in me to want to hurt pedophiles so bad they can't repete their crimes. I can't help it, I was born that way. First the thought of anyone hurting children (and I have three) makes me want to retch, then the genetic defense systems really get to going and I don't care to go into detail.

I've always disliked "not guilty by reason of insanity", favoring "not responsible by reason of insanity" I like your addition of institutionalization for life. If one cannot be responsible for their actions, isolation from potential victims is prudent.

There seems to be a growing body of evidence that pedophiles can never be cured.

*shrug* Not with our current understanding of medicine/psychology.

I'm willing to allow the possibility of a future cure, but given the track record of psychological 'cures' my standards of proof are rather high.

...I don't care to go into detail.

Why not? I hope a pedophile decides to read our thoughts about him/her.

That said, like mentally ill individuals who murder, such people should be locked away for the good of society...

I disagree. I don't see any reason to warehouse a being who kills/rapes/physically harms another human. I also don't believe in a court system that allows endless appeals and twenty years of sitting on "death row".

We have become a nation of weak and badgered individuals, through "political correctness". Few have the fortitude to prosecute and put these animals to death. It should not matter about their mental state, nor should we waste time trying to "rehabilitate" them. They can talk to God about foregiveness...

It's just like the illegal alien problem. It's a friggin' invasion. We, the citizen majority, could easily take control of our borders. The MM is just one prong of a concerted effort needed to defeat those elites in Washington, catering to their biz buds, and the cheap labor of illegals. I say place a bounty of $50 on every illegal reported, put a $1000 fine on housing them, and a $10,000 fine for employing them. I'll personally buy a van to help transport them back to Mexico! They can have the van and keep going south!

Politically correct policies keep queers in our schools teaching our children about perversion. PC keeps liberals in schools, teaching our children how to emote, and put on a condom. PC keeps killing babies in the name of choice!

God will not be mocked. Our world is shrinking, and the borders are falling. We are being overtaken by events!

Lock and load! Or, you can turn of the TV and watch NASCAR this afternoon, like me!

I study ethic violence, but I don't take sides in it, and try to justify it. What I do is try to explain the why and look to how we can prevent it in the future. As I said in my first post and later, I think this guy deserves the worst that can happen to him, he's just going for the "twinkie defense" version to see if he can get out of it.

Though you may not realize it ... you are taking a side
