Murtha Received Bronze Star V 1 Year After Service

Murtha received his Bronze Star V one year after his service and during his campaign for the 22nd Congressional District according to an article from The Daily Courier dated October 21, 1968. The article says he served one year in Vietnam from August 18, 1966 to July 1, 1967 yet he received his Bronze Star over one year later.

It seems unusual to me that a Bronze Star V award would be presented one year after service. It also seems rather suspect that the same award was presented during Murtha'a campaign for the 22nd Congressional District, don't you think??

I don't agree with his politics, but there is no arguing that he has earned the right to say what he wants. Very impressive background.

Medals can take a while to work through the chain of command. Murtha would not be the only intelligence officer I've heard of being awarded a Bronze Star... but the "v" is tricky. Presumably he was out in the field collecting intelligence under fire, not just sitting at a desk reading it.

I can't say that I see anything unusual at all in this. Given the time it takes any govt agency, including the military, to process paperwork it sounds pretty normal.

I'm not a Murtha fan, but it's not unusual to receive an award long after the action took place.

Tip of the hat for his service....but that's no excuse for "cut & run" and cozying up to the likes of Gov. Dean and Nacy Pelosi. He may have been a good soldier but he's a poor excuse for a leader now.
