Very good summary ! I want to add one more thing. Islam in its classical form simply should not be treated as mere religion as religion is now understood in the Western World.
Islam should be treated as a totalitarian political-religious movement and the Islamic activities should be seen as a direct threat to the existence of American Constitution and the Republican form of government due to the Islam continuous Global Claims for Power, the commandements and practice to use the Holy War (Jihad) against unbelievers as the tool to spread Islam. Islam should be treated the same way as Communism and Nazism were treated. It's up to Islam to reform itself to make it palatable to the non-Islamic world. Until it happens and certain tenets of Islam are not repudiated by all leading Islamic authorities, Islam is the enemy of the Western Civilization.
