All Things Considered, August 14, 2006 · In an effort to reduce the stabbings and slashings that stem from the country's "booze and blade" culture, Scotland is cracking down on the sale of swords, machetes, meat cleavers and other knifes. Knife violence accounts for almost half of the homicides in Scotland each year.

Speaking of rocks, there has always been the question of what a Scotsman wears under his kilt. Well we know now they aren't big and made of brass.
I guess now I can write off that part of my ancestry as poor genitic material. I always thought that the peat used in making Scotch was toxic, that question is still unanswered but it sure causes genetic mutation.

I thought the handguns were to blame, and everything would be peaceful when they were banned!

Thats the problem with spellchecker. If you make a mistake and it forms a word, spellchecker will let it pass. However, my tag line says it all.

No more carrying a dirk in the sock?
I think you mean a sgian dubh. The dirk is huge and worn hanging from the waist.
I sell these items in my store and there is much more demand nowadays for the safe sgian dubh - i.e. one without a blade.
Sign of the times.

I imagine future thesauruses designating Scotland as a synonym for "suffocation."
