PepsiCo announced today that Steve Reinemund, 58, Chairman and CEO, will retire next May. "After 22 years with PepsiCo, more than five of them as Chairman and CEO...
The board of directors has elected Indra K. Nooyi, 50, as CEO effective October 1, 2006. Mr. Reinemund will serve as Executive Chairman of PepsiCo and will continue to serve as a member of the board of directors until his retirement in May, 2007.

But I ask many Freepers to remember back to May of '05 when Ms Nooyi gave a speech at Columbia University's Business School regarding America's place in the world - as she saw it.
it looks like no bad deed goes un-rewarded in today's business world. Click on these links for more:

I recall writing Pepsi's CEO when this occurred and getting an incredibly namby-pamby letter from some flack in the Public Relations area.
Comments or opinions - anyone?
Well, I'm going to give Pepsi the same finger that she assigned to the US in her now infamous speech.
Yeah, and the new diet Mtn Dew sucks!
Of course, I just finished my caffeine free Diet Coke.
Why in the world did they go messing up something that wasn't broken? Yes, the new diet Mt. Dew stinks.
If I was running the corporate warfare division of Coca-Cola I would:
1)Make her past comments and background known throughout the internet.
2)Make comments over and over such as "her background should have no bearing on which drink Americans buy. We want to win the battle for peoples thirst budget on the weight of our product.
3) Immediately run a series of ads touting Coca Cola as being there while we were fighting WWII etc. Implying that Pepsico wasnt.
4) Begin the marketing process to position in a subtle but effective way that CCOla is the mainstream American beverage and Pepsi is the Clinton/ Rap era choice.
OMG, this is series ... no more Diet Pepsi. :(
Indra "Middle Finger" PING!
One would have thought that comments like Ms. Nooyi's would have permanently damages his rise thru the ranks of Pepsi.
Apparently not.
From the two letters I got from Pepsi (one a reply and the second a reply to my rebuttal), I got the feeling they didn't give a F**K what anyone thought of Ms Nooyi's comments - but appeared to be concerned only so it wouldn't hurt sales.
too many damned typos.
Insert the word "her" instead of "his".
I agree.
I had laid up on boycotting for several months now - but it looks like I'll have to jump back on again.
I will not consume any Pepsi product while this woman is CEO. Consider the boycott under way.
I should have known. The India born and raised sari-dressed over-achiever is a Yale graduate. Five will get you ten she is a Hillary-funder.
No more Dr. Pepper too... this will be a huge sacrifice on my part.
I don't have a favorite band of soft drink but I will gladly give my middle finger to PEPSI Co. for the enterity of this cant's reign.
Here's a toast to you, b!tch.
What did Dr. Pepper do?
Actually it depends on who owns the franchise in your particular area
3.3 Who owns Dr Pepper? I heard it was owned by Coke/Pepsi/7-Up/etc.?
"Dr Pepper is owned by Dr Pepper / Seven Up Inc a subsidiary of the Cadbury PLC trading on the NYSE [as CSG -- Chris F.]. Dr Pepper is distributed throughout the country by a variety of some very dedicated bottlers who without them, the Dr Pepper brand would not be where it is today. Coke, Pepsi, and RC bottlers sell Dr Pepper; it all depends on who owns the franchise in a specific geographic area. The breakdown is about 30% Coke, 40% Pepsi, 20% [other? He didn't say -- Chris F.] and some who just sell Dr Pepper......like our friends in Dublin." In December, 1998, Coca-Cola caused a stir by paying Cadbury-Schweppes $1.85 billion for the right to distribute Cadbury-Schweppes sodas (including Dr Pepper) in 120 countries, but the United States was not one of them (neither were France or South Africa). So, in the U.S., Dr Pepper will still be distributed by whoever has the local franchise rights, meaning that there will still be places where Coke doesn't own the franchise and will continue to sell Mr. Pibb (and possibly another brand--see question 2.4) to compete. And--just so no one gets confused--Cadbury Schweppes still owns Dr Pepper. You'd be surprised how quickly rumors get started from news like this.
Made by PepsiCo.
You mean I might not have to give up Dr. Pepper? How do I find out which company distributes it in my area?
