It took President George W. Bush to tell the truth to Britain about the massive plot to blow US-bound airliners out of the sky. In his first comment on the apparently foiled attempt to explode airliners flying from Britain to the US, Bush put it simply: "This was a stark reminder that this nation is at war with Islamic fascists."
He is right. But in the early news reports in Britain the words "Islamist" or "Muslim" were hardly emphasized. Let alone "extremist" or the dread word "fascist." Instead the common code words on television were that the 24 men arrested were "British-born" and "of Pakistani origin."
No mention of their Islamist ideology. Did the BBC think they might turn out to be from Pakistan's embattled Christian minority? I don't think so. In Europe the truth is so terrible that we are in denial. Perhaps it is understandable. We simply do not wish to face the fact that we really are threatened by a vast fifth column - that there are thousands of European-born people, in Britain, in France, in Holland, in Denmark, everywhere - who wish to destroy us. They are part of a wider war, what Tony Blair rightly calls an "arc of extremism" - Islamist extremism.
YOU SEE this denial in the coverage of Israel's war against Hizbullah.
Civilian deaths in Lebanon are utterly tragic. But if you watched only British television, particularly the BBC, you would be hard-pressed to understand that Israel has been forced into a war for its survival, one in which Iran has empowered its proxy, Hizbullah, to undertake the final solution of "the Zionist entity." The fact that since Israel pulled out of southern Lebanon six years ago Hizbullah has been allowed to hijack the whole area to create a vast attack station whose purpose is only to destroy Israel, is taken for granted and certainly not shown to be a cause for opprobrium.
Protesters in London have been marching through the streets carrying banners proclaiming "We Are All Hizbullah Now."
Do they know that every Lebanese child killed is a triumph for Hizbullah and a tragedy for Israel, as well as for Lebanon? Do they know that among the prisoners Hassan Nasrallah demands that Israel release are men arrested after rejoicing in smashing out the brains of Israeli children?
Do they know that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the eager seeker of nuclear weapons, considers the utter destruction of Israel an Iranian priority? Or that Hizbullah's Nasrallah has said that he wished all Jews would gather in Israel so they could all be destroyed at once; and that there is no creature more disgusting in the world than a Jew, "and note that I said a Jew, not an Israeli"?
THE AWFUL thing is that many of those who march in support of Hizbullah may well know such things. Those who don't know them don't want to trouble themselves. And it's not just the extremist marchers. Reasonable, conventional armchair critics concentrate on the mistakes of Israel rather than the evil ideology of Hizbullah. They refuse to acknowledge that a small, decent society is now literally under the threat of death from an illegal fascistic military machine built throughout the hills, valleys, towns and villages of southern Lebanon.
As the American historian Victor Davis Hanson recently pointed out in these pages, there is a kind of moral madness at work here.
We refuse to admit that there is a pattern to global terrorism. European papers are frightened to publish cartoons which some Muslim leaders demand we censor, but are happy to portray the Israelis as latter-day Nazis. Not for nothing does Hanson say we have forgotten the terrible lessons of 1938.
IN A LIVE BBC interview recently, I called Hizbullah "Islamo-fascists." The interviewer said nervously, "That's a very controversial description." I replied that it was merely accurate. She brought the interview to a swift close.
But how else should one describe a military machine that marches under the banner of a demagogic leader who seeks above all to kill Jews?
Its not just Hizbullah, of course. The same ideology of hate and destruction motivates al-Qaida, perhaps the inspiration, if not the controller, of the arrested British bombers.
In Britain we are actually quite lucky. We have a prime minister who, in my view, has committed many, many errors at home; but abroad Tony Blair has a clear vision, both moral and pragmatic, of the threat that we face.
And for this he is mocked and abused as nothing more than Bush's "poodle."
In a thoughtful recent speech in Los Angeles Blair spoke of fighting an "arc of extremism." That extremism is Islamic extremism, whether it is inspired al-Qaida or by Teheran, whether its foot soldiers are Sunni or Shi'ite, whether they were born in Britain, or southern Lebanon, or Iran, or Saudi Arabia, or anywhere else. As Blair said: The battle is over the values that are to govern the future of the worlds. "Are they those of tolerance, freedom, respect for difference and diversity; or those of reaction, division, hatred?" "This is war," said Blair.
Alas, it is. Wherever they were born, the men who want to blow up airliners, who want to destroy Israel and, not coincidentally, who want to kill all hope of a decent society in Iraq - are Islamo-fascists who are united in hatred of us.
The sooner we in Europe understand that, and that they must be defeated, the safer everyone - Christians, Jews, Muslims, and non-believers - will be.
The media has no such hesitancy in declaring some act the work of "white supremacists". So why is it when militants are "muslim supremacists" (who have no qualms about killing or enslaving kufir) it is always so hard to get information on the perps?
Leftists only like to use the word "fascist" when describing capitalists and self-reliant individualists.
The attacks on Israel, the jets that were to explode over America, and August 22. All related and all probably lead back to Iran's President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The fact the the President of the United States has properly identified the enemy is a very positive sign that the gloves are going to FINALLY come off, and that the Muslims can no longer hide behind their minority status or their fake outrage.
IT'S THE ISLAM, STUPID! 'Bout damn time!
The question is, can you ave Islam without having "Islamic Fascism"?
I would submit that Islamic Fascism is part-and-parcel of the religion, and cannot be divorced from Islam. Muslims not only have the right, but the duty, to do these things.
And the truth is getting worse by the day. If Europe does not awaken soon while it can still win, it will wake up to the horror of the Islamic sword. I doubt the Europeans will fight until they have no other choice, and I predict it will be a bloodbath.
I agree with your comment that Islamist fascism is part and parcel of the Islam, period.
So called moderate Muslims have had five years to expose and corral their extremist elements, but to no avail. Instead there is tacit approval, and all condemnation is directed outward from the Muslim community toward infidels who might actually get upset with acts of terrorism committed around the globe.
It is time for profiling of Muslims.
It is time for Muslims here on visas to be sent back home. They can work or go to college somewhere else.
It is time for Muslims to be told they have to take the bus, train, taxi, or drive, as they are not getting on a plane anymore.
It is time for mosques to be monitored and for anti-US and anti Jewish hate preaching to be exposed and outlawed, similar to what we do for Nazism and KKK folks.
It is time to outlaw Islam in this country. Why should we give tax deductions to a religion that says it is OK to kill Americans so you can go to heaven? What other religion rewards it followers for committing murder? None.
It is time to take out Syria and Iran, before Teheran gets its nukes. They have by their words, committed themselves to the destruction of every American and every Jew, so, to me, we are at war.
It is time not give a fig anymore of what Muslims think, want, or what their so-called grievances are. When they are ready to live in the 21st Century rather than the 7th Century, then we can listen to them.
There are two striking historical parallels happening before our very eyes.
One is that we are seeing 1938, the gathering of war clouds while we proclaim falsely that there is peace in out time, all over again. We cannot escape that war is imminent and necessary for survival.
The other is 1945, where the Japanese were given an ultimatum--surrender unconditionally or face destruction. Then the follow through which saved an invasion of Japan and saved millions of casualties on both sides. But it took extreme action to change the Japanese ideology from Emperor worship to democracy.
When faced with imminent and total destruction, all of a sudden, Japan chose to survive than to commit hari-kari on a nationwide scale. This is the choice for Islam.
Unless we summon the will to impose a Pax Americana on the Muslim world, we will continue to be Gulliver tied down by the Lilliputians, suffering the death of our nation by a million small cuts of terrorism.
Time to chuck PC and do the job. World War IV has been underway since 1979. It is time to engage in the fight fully before one or two major American cities disappears in a mushroom cloud set off by Islamic fascists. After that, the American people will be unrestrained, and the Muslim world will receive a far harsher fate than just the destruction of the rulers of Syria and Iran.
Feel free to flame away, but I have had it with tolerating Islam. I don't cotton to death cults masquerading as religion, with the stated purpose of the death or forced conversion of me, my family, and my posterity to its ideals. NUTS to that.

He is right. But in the early news reports in Britain the words "Islamist" or "Muslim" were hardly emphasized. Let alone "extremist" or the dread word "fascist." Europeans need to wake up - they're running out of time.
Not just your opinions. Many people share them, including myself. Well said.
I first read the term "Islamofascism" on a blog 3 years ago , when no one dared call Al Qaida anything but Terrorists, even the term "jihadists" was nor politically correct, for fear that Muslims might take offense. The West, with America in the lead rebuilt the nations from which fascism foisted itself uppon the world with its bombastic speeches, its calls for Leibenshraum ( living room) and its appeal to the ancient war traditions in Italy , Spain, Germany , Yugoslavia, France and others. And the Fascist enablers of France, many who were closet fascisti on the wrong moral sode of the Dreyfus Affair, went on to form Frances Vichy government.
The TERM ISLAMOFASIST passes the test of history, and is highly accurate in not only describing the movement, but is also highly accurate in its information on how Islamofascism must be handled:
ISLAMOFASCISTS MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO FORM AN AXIS OF NATIONS AS IT DID PRIOR TO WWII
US policy of pre-emptive interdiction is historically accurate, and not only "justified," but it is the ONLY approach which makes any sense in the light of what we know about fascism in general.
Islamofascism can no longer hide behind the musty robes of bona fide religion. As organizations like CAIR continue to object to the term, they also ignore and reject the body of knowledge we have about fascism and how that movement needs to be treated and engaged.
ISLAMOFASM is a term that needs to be announced and cried from every mountain top, from every church and mosque in the world. And Islamofascism must be brought to a swift and , YES, violent end, where violence is needed, swift, prejudicial and uncompromising, a world form of interventive surgery on a cancerous tumor purposefully grown to prevent a large portion of the world and its populations from joining the modern world, by men whose definition of humanity is INDEED fascist.
Harry them, kill them, starve them, fight them and make their existence such a horror that the very bones of Islamofascism are ground to dust and made fertilizer for freedom.
That is the message that the millions of people that died in WWII give us, and ignoring it is such folly, that only a MUSLIM religious fanatic would subscribe to it.
ISLAMOFASCISM. BY ALL MEANS.......FINALLY .....YES!!!
I think you can, but only if the Muslims don't take the Koran literally nor their religion too seriously. IN other words, as long as they are not fundamentalists. In every religion, there are the "moderates," who don't think too deeply about religious issues and just want to go about their lives finding happiness through good family and other relationships. They want to live well, not go hungry and raise healthy, happy children.
The problem with Islam arises whenever people start seeking deeper meaning in the Koran and the Muslim religion. In other words, when they become "idealistic" and unsatisfied with a "normal" life. When Christian youth turn to their scripture, they usually start engaging in postive, other-directed service. They try to clean up their lives with Jesus as their guide, knowing that he was a man of peace who told people not to judge others.
When Islam youth turn "idealistic" and literalist in their religion, they often turn to negative, judgmental leaders. They turn their lives around and pray avidly, chastise their bodies through fasting, but allow their hearts and minds to become infested with self-righteous rage at those who don't live as "purely" as they.
What a contrast. One religious founder, Jesus, let himself be killed so that others might live, forbade his followers to seek vengenance, and inspired disciples who also let themselves be killed so that others might be saved. They tried to love their enemies and pray for those who persecuted them. Jesus' kingdom was not of this world.
The other religious founder, Muhammad, came to believe that Jesus didn't really die on the cross and that such a death was "unworthy" of a prophet. He created a mythology in which it was okay to murder, rob, enslave other people if they were "unbelievers." He personally engaged in violence and allowed his disciples to do the same. He "revealed" a teaching supposedly from God which was patently false -- that by murder, revenge, and violence, the Kingdom of God could be established on this earth.
If a Muslim reads this and says, "You don't know what you are talking about. ARe you a Muslim? Have you studied the Koran or the life of the 'prophet'?" To this I would simply say, "Jesus Christ taught people how to recognize true teachers from false ones. He said to look at the results of their teachings. 'By their fruits you shall know them.'"
I have looked at the fruits of Islam and have seen that they are rotten to the core. I have looked at the fruits of Christ's religion and have seen the highest, best civilizations in world history.
I reject Muhammad and his religion and pray for good people of all nationalities to simply look at his fruits. A good tree cannot bear rotten fruit but Muhammad's tree has borne nasty, hateful, blood-soaked self-righteousness. That tree is finally grown high and tall enough for the whole world to see its fruits: terrorism, destruction, and hate, female subjugation, family dysfunction, and economic poverty. This is not from God, it is not good for people, but rather something to spit out of your mouth.
"Feel free to flame away, but I have had it with tolerating Islam. I don't cotton to death cults masquerading as religion, with the stated purpose of the death or forced conversion of me, my family, and my posterity to its ideals. NUTS to that."
No flame here. I just wish the other half of America thought the way you did. We would be more fully engaged and the economy would suck, but we either pay a little now or pay a lot later to show a message to Iran & Syria and the rest of the jihads we mean business. I don't want to be uncomfortable now but it's manageable and it isn't later after we see nuclear terrorism brought to bear on the West.
They proclaim minority status while at the same time proclaiming a majority of 1.2Billion worldwide.
If they want to assimilate in the West, fine. If they want to convert the West and get us under Sharia law, then they can push their political ideology elsewhere.
"ISLAMOFASCISTS MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO FORM AN AXIS OF NATIONS AS IT DID PRIOR TO WWII"
That part is too late. You have Iran/Syria and North Korea supported by Russia and China. That about face by Putin away from democracy and back to communism wasn't an accident. China is becoming noticeably more chilly lately since we are further arming Taiwan, giving the nod to the Japanese to re-arm and have taken steps to minimize their currency de-valuation strategy which has been used to build a formidable nuclear deterrent/air force/navy. These steps were taken because of obvious hostile intentions stated by the PRC kinda like Japan prior WWII.
That depends on whether you are an optomist or not. I see the cup as half full rather than half empty. INdia is an Ally, Afghanistan saw us rum the Islamofascists out of power, and we establish a base to fight them further in Afghanista, all of which would not have happened in Democrats were leading our nation.
What remains to be done is to keep the faith and infoprm America about why we must continue our efforts as a bi-partisan policy, as we did during the cold war.
It is this cold war approach which needs to become the policy of our nation, and it is the real battle which now must be fought in order to consolidate the gains we have made in battling Islamofascism.
The gains have been substabntial, and Pakistan? They are coming round, and managed to inform Britain and the US of a plot that would have killed thousands.
I am quite optomistic also that Bibi might cause the Olmert government to fall. That is bound to happen.
Now we must defeat the Iran/Syria/Hamas axis, and it is unfortunate that Olmert does not have the religion that Bush and Blair obviously do.
Olmert had a chance at greatness, and instead, he looked the monstor in the face, shivered, and ran away mumbling liberal pronouncements on a victory that does not exist. He will go down in history as an liberal Islamofascist apologist.
But I believe the ultimate nuclear armed axis which the Islamofascists are striving for has not yet happened becuase of British and American intervention, and we are on the right path, but are far too willy-nilly and apologetic about it.
Here is a short piece I post in your support:
*****************************************************
Only until fascism is re-understood widely, will it become possible for a unified strategic vision, even within our own nation, not to mention in other nations. Certainly Blair rests his strategy on some of the pronouncements of Winston Churchill.
Islamofascism is the modern peril of the World. Is it evil? Well if we can better understand it in terms of having a justified strategy, it can and should be called evil. One only has to publish what the Islamofascist definition of what a human being is, and unapologetically proclaim it to the world. Until then, there will be no chance of a uniform strategy which is functional.
The authoritative voices which address the real war are from those who are no longer with us, people like Churchill, Eisenhower, and even Patton. And it is past time when someone should open their coffins and relearn the lessons that their very lives represented.
This is the modern battle, and forecast by men of letters like Tolkien. The lords of Mordor are upon us, and we need to destroy them and Mount Doom.
Who will bear the ring?
One laughs at people like Hillery Clinton, John Kerry, John McCain, And Howard Dean ( Vermont's Village Idiot), who presume they have what it takes to bear the ring. They are aligned with the forces of Mordor, and are weak in spirit. They tremble in the shadows of the Nazgul.
No, we need leaders LIKE Tom DeLay, leaders who have the courage and tenacity to unite the nation in what is obvious to anyone who has read the history of fascism and how it functions to seize national power. We need a modern anti-fascist movement.
People might laugh at the Lord of the Rings trilogy as an analogy, but in truth, Tolkien left us with a spiritual/cultural message about fascism, and Churchill leaves us with an example of the politics and strategy necessary to awaken the electorate, and move generals to form the seeds of fascist destruction in their gardens of evil.
Who will side with Sauron, and who will side with Gandalf?
This is the momentous question of our times. In saying this, perhaps I am putting it in the only way that America as a whole might understand, for few would wade through the historical texts on fascism and its rise in Europe, as I have been privileged to do in my college years under a professor named Gilbert Allardyce, one of the great historian voices on Fascism.
Tolkein, such is the culture of the West, and we ignore him at our peril. Who would have thought that our nation's salvation might rest with the message that such literature has given us. We are living his trilogy at this time. One might now regard Tolkien as prescient, and his work far beyond just an expression of an amalgamation of mythology. He might be our salvation.
I have spent a lot of effort as a teacher, trying to evolve a way to inform my high school students of what we face as a culture standing in the way of Islamofascism, I have settled on Tolkein as an analogy, a work written out of the soul twisting of WWI and WWII suffered by it's author at the hand of fascism, and I mean to drive it home.
