Obama: America needs to hear more-moderate, more-inclusive religious voices
United Church News ^ | August '06 | Barb Powell

More-moderate religious perspectives "do not have voice" within the media, says U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), and it's something he's working to change.

"I think it is unfortunate any time the media does not accurately portray the true beliefs of the American people," Obama, a member of Trinity UCC in Chicago, told United Church News. "There are millions of religious Americans who are offended when their faith is used as a tool to attack and divide, and who see a positive role for the church in solving both social and moral problems.

Hey, Mr. Obama: if you are concerned about religious extremism, maybe you should consider Hezbollah. Their title means "Army of God." And that ain't exactly the Salvation Army they're describing.

Unless you describe salvation as mingling the remnants of one's own charred, dismembered corpse among the body parts of unsuspecting victims.

Which is by definition what Hezbollah believes in.

Cheers!

Precisely. Isn't that the whole working philosophy of the UCC? He's in the right denomination.

He openly invites a continuation of the disintegration of the moral and social fabric of the nation when he 'preaches' said beliefs, imo.

Oh, yeah,He's ready for Prime Time and a spot on the Dem ticket.

Obama needs to get his eyes off those "moderates" and on Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords, Who said "I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life, NO-ONE cometh unto the Father except by Me."

Sounds like a church fit for a politician.

http://www.ucc.org/faith/index.html

The UCC has roots in the "covenantal" tradition—meaning there is no centralized authority or hierarchy that can impose any doctrine or form of worship on its members. Christ alone is Head of the church. We seek a balance between freedom of conscience and accountability to the apostolic faith. The UCC therefore receives the historic creeds and confessions of our ancestors as testimonies, but not tests of the faith.

He probably considers the words of the Bible to be divisive and judgemental.

This guy is being pushed in front so much. They've dumped more sugar all over this guy, and is so "smooth" you can tell he's EXTREMELY rehearsed on everything he does. This guy was nobody 3 years ago. Including in Illinois. Suddenly he was somebody in Illinois, and then presented at the DNC, where he was embraced as the new Democrat "messiah". It was almost like it was scripted for a movie.

This guy has come from nowhere, with no known history, and suddenly his front and center of the MSM stage. He seems slicker than Slick (Willy).

Maybe I'm paranoid, but I do not trust this guy. AT ALL.

My "religion" is all-inclusive once you profess that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior.

If you don't take that step, your name's not in the Book of Life. Sorry, but it's a "self-selecting" religion, not an inclusive one.

In other words, I CAN'T include you because you can only "include" yourself. I can't do it for you.

Obama only won because the Illinois GOP made it impossible for Peter Fitzgerald to run again.
