The Israeli army launches a terrestrial operation of scale to southern Lebanon
JERUSALEM - the Israeli army launched Saturday morning a terrestrial operation of scale to southern Lebanon, announced the spokesman of the army.
"Conforméement with the decision Wednesday of the cabinet of safety, the Israeli army launched a terrestrial operation in the south of Lebanon which must extend to the Litani river", the spokesman indicated.
"the troops on the ground will profit from an aerial cover and maritime", the spokesman added.
According to the public radio, reinforcements as men and the tanks penetrated in southern Lebanon in the zone already controlled by the Israeli army.
"a terrestrial operation"
What's that?
A ground-based operation.
If Israel occupies up to the Latani until Lebanese and UN troops can be put in place there would be ample time to destroy all the underground bunkers the Hezzies have spent the last 6 years building.
I will postpone rolling my eyes and wringing my hands until a couple of weeks down the line.
Good choice. I agree 100%.
Good choice, Israel is nobody's fool, they have a 50 year history of spanking these radicals
there would be ample time to destroy all the underground bunkers the Hezzies have spent the last 6 years building.

but where will the children go to school if they destroy all the bunkers under them?
I am cautiously optimistic that the resolution passed today is the best chance of getting Hezbollah disarmed and cutting off their supplies from Syria.
I am not clear on whether or not Israel will still be allowed to attack Hizbullah in the area Israel occupies south of the litani river after it approves the ceasefire on Sunday. If that is considered "defensive" (which I doubt but some on this board seem to assume), then Israel will have a good deal of time to root out Hizbullah positions. If (and I suspect this is the case) it is not considered "defensive" to attack/root out Hizbullah positions south of the litani, then Israel only has 24 hours to apply all of this newfound man-power (which should have been applied from the very beginning)
The IDF better get moving. The clock is ticking.
I think they've cleared a path and they're going to roll in like a tidal wave.
But the rockets Hezbollah just launched are a violation of the resolution, but totally predictable.
I saw an interview earlier, where an Israeli general was saying that the way things have unfolded has not been entirely a surprise to the Israeli command. :^)
Ditto.
That's the plan.
I'm sure by now, Hezbollah has collapsed into a few pockets, and will start scrambling to get the hell out and try to high tail it across the latani.
Its going to be very interesting what Israel finds in there in the coming weeks. They need to stay there and document it. Once the UN arrives, they are going to do everything they can to hide what Hezbollah was up too.
No limit of time for the Israeli operation in southern Lebanon
JERUSALEM - the terrestrial operation of scale launched by the Israeli army early Saturday in southern Lebanon "is not limited in time", affirmed with AFP a spokesman of the Israeli government.
"This operation which aims at neutralizing the capacities of Hezbollah to be drawn from the rockets and the missiles towards the north of Israel is not limited in time", declared Mr. Avi Pazner.
Yes patience patience everyone. This is FAR FAR FARRRRRRRRRRRRRR from over.
The best is yet to come.
