How many freedoms must we give up to terrorists before we are safe?

If you let the government control one aspect of our lives, how many more will they want to control.

I'm not saying the answers are easy, but there must be a better way. Giving in means the terrorists are winning.

And I don't want them winning. I want then DEAD!

From Monroeville and Murrysville, Pennsylvania (Western PA). Perps were supposedly from the Republic of Georgia (Chechnya?).

I think that is a great idea, if it can be done. If they are planning to use these as weapons, it would stop them cold. Our kids can survive a day or 2 without phones.

How many Americans must die from IEDs planted on our own roadsides just so kids can have a cell phone?

If Homeland Security was smart, they would immediately put a stop to the sale of prepaid cell phones in the U.S. The majority of purchasers are drug dealers, prostitutes and Al Qaeda.

My parents don't want the hassle of a regularly used cell phone but bought a Tracfone because they were going on a driving trip.

They were never able to get it to work.

Do you fly often? We lost that battle years ago. When was the metal detector introduced to airports? Schools?

My mother uses a tracphone when she's in Canada because they don't charge extra when she calls the states.

"each phone represents a potential bomb detonator."

So instead of cell phones, they use garage door openers which aren't being tracked, or keyless entry transmitters? The type used to open your car door? Or how about personal radios? You know. The kind they sell for around $30?

A transmitter is a transmitter and any terrorist that is hell bent on detonation an explosive will find a way.

You can make the argument all you want, but taking away some our freedoms just means terrorism is working.

I prefer them cold and in the ground. Or tiny pieces will do too.

gotta show you qualify for credit and submit some personal info...home address, home phone, etc. these people are trying to be completely untraceable. disable all pre-paid phones, then enable them after traceable info is presented/recorded. this is war.

So you are saying if we take away cell phones they won't be able to blow us up?

There are other ways to detonate explosives.

I left my cell phone at home on a trip. I stopped at a Walmart and bought one of these. You have to call and activate them. It had been years since I had used a payphone. I had to stand in line to get change and then push for....2 for....3 for.... When I finally got a real person they still couldn't get it activated. I took it back, told them it was junk, and got my money . I didn't have to show ID to purchase but they made me show ID for a refund so if we could block these things we could probably pick them all up when they came back and had to show IDs to get their money back:')

Yeah but they would have to completely regroup and probably wouldn't have time to do what they planned.

several Arabs went to the Dollar Stores and tried to buy hundreds of dollars worth of phones.

Racial Profiling!!

If they were white elderly grandmothers, it would have been ok to investigate.

I'm not saying it will stop all of it, but it has become obvious that they are using that method. Why continue to make it easy for them?

Why not just remove all forms of security in America, and let everyone defend him/herself? Where would you draw the line?

This is from Jan, 2006 in California and Texas

150 Phones in One Sale, 60 Phones in Another

The FBI is closely monitoring the potentially dangerous development, which came to light following recent large-quantity purchases in California and Texas, officials confirmed
