If Homeland Security was smart, they would immediately put a stop to the sale of prepaid cell phones in the U.S. The majority of purchasers are drug dealers, prostitutes and Al Qaeda. My parents don't want the hassle of a regularly used cell phone but bought a Tracfone because they were going on a driving trip.
They were never able to get it to work.

My mother uses a tracphone when she's in Canada because they don't charge extra when she calls the states.

I left my cell phone at home on a trip. I stopped at a Walmart and bought one of these. You have to call and activate them. It had been years since I had used a payphone. I had to stand in line to get change and then push for....2 for....3 for.... When I finally got a real person they still couldn't get it activated. I took it back, told them it was junk, and got my money . I didn't have to show ID to purchase but they made me show ID for a refund so if we could block these things we could probably pick them all up when they came back and had to show IDs to get their money back:')
