Laz- that is precisely the conundrum we face.
Islam is USING the Constitution to DESTROY the Constution.
I'm quite sure that DEFENSE of the Constitution was the intent of the founding fathers. No where in it does it say-
"Throw out this document if faced by a militant religion that wants it replaced.Self-destruct rather than offend."
The intent of Islam is to REPLACE the Constitution with Sharia law.
If WE alter the Constitution, temporarily, to protect it from destruction we can restore it. That is what Special Powers is designed to do in war.
The Islamapologists love to use the Japanese internment as an example of what we should not, cannot do, to protect ourselves again. They conveniently forget that internment ended when the war/danger did. Doing that did not destroy the Constitution, and it probably protected our country from Japanese terrorism. It was preemptive. If the Japanese in this country had done a tiny fraction of what the Muslims have done to this country, those camps wouldn't have been the worst of it.
The Constitution survived WW2 and whatever infractions we committed against it because of the threat. It will again.
What it will not survive is Islam, if we let Islam USE it to destroy it.
The three religions share much of the same stories, people, and places. And while the manifestation of the monotheistic deity is different in each of the religious texts, they are very clearly the same God.
I question what your comments have to do with mine. Both the Federalists and Antifederalists had input to the final version of the Constitution, and has nothing to do with what a succession of administrations have or have not done to it, and the Republic which we may or may not still have.
I thought we were talking about the Constitution as a document written by men inspired or influenced by the author of liberty, to write what they produced in the document we call the Constitution of the United States of America. A document that stands even now as the premier document on the face of the earth in regard to proper and correct government. What man does to it is another story entirely.
And -- know this -- we ARE at War.
I believe in the right of all Americans to worship the god of their choosing. But if a religion/cult advocates overthrow of our constitution and replacement with Sharia Law, it is subversion and must be stopped.
Nonsense!
We are fighting the war as required. Driving friendlies especially Americans into the arms of the enemy would be a big mistake, understand?
Spare me the fluffery. We're talking about the Constitution as a document written by men who saw the unfortunate need for a strong national government, and thought they had found a way to cage the beast. They were wrong, of course ... for all its fine words the Constitution has no built in mechanism for its own enforcement.
That's me!
...in the imposition of the Catholic faith on Americans as the "state religion" as "the Social Kingship of Christ"...
Those are Dominionist Protestants and Evangelicals, not Catholics. I'm against the imposition of any faith on anybody. I'm for the acknowledgement by the State (any state) of the Natural Law as the basis of common and statutory law
...the removal of the right of other faiths to even gather in worship...
Huh? Where'd you read that? Not in anything I wrote, that's for sure.
Even worse, they believe that, unless you're a physical member of the Catholic Church, you will end up in hell.
Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus, yes -- but I am not the judge of who is extra ecclesiam...
I am a Christian first and an American second. However, my Christian faith compels me to be unswervingly loyal to my native land (1 Peter 2:17-18) and obedient to its laws insofar as they reflect the Natural Law (Romans 13:1-6).
"If you will fear the Lord, and serve him, and hearken to his voice, and not provoke the mouth of the Lord: then shall both you, and the king who reigneth over you, be followers of the Lord your God." - 1 Kings 12:14
I advocate it's temporary alteration, required in all times of War.
And -- know this -- we ARE at War.
When exactly will this war end?
Don't "loan" the government extraordinary powers to ignore the Constitution unless you know exactly when you can take them back.
Remember well Franklin's adage about security and liberty. It is often ignored these days.
I recognize a standard of morality and ethics external to the State. It's only theocratic if that standard is a specific set of religious strictures.
And where, exactly, did I make that statement? I certainly said that all Christian Citizens should be doing that. But manifestly not all Citizens are Christians. On the other hand, since I believe Christianity to be True, I believe that all people should be Christians. That's a matter for persuasion, though, not legislation..
Fair enough, although you seem to go a step further by implying that they not only should, but they must - doing so being a test of faith and those who fail being unfit to call themselves Christians. What determines what is a matter for persuasion and what is a matter for legislation?
Let's try this...do you consider the God of the Jews to be the same as the God of Christians?
Try as you might to say otherwise, the internment is H I S T O R Y, and nothing you or I can say or do, is going to change the fact. Right or wrong, and I contend that for the time it was right, though viewed from todays pc world is considered wrong, yet the nation made it happen, and it proved beyond doubt that the majority of Japanese were truly Americans, and not in name only.
In this day it is used primarily by leftists, as a hammer, who at this time are far more exorcised about Constitutional rights than anyone on the right, when our national survival is on the line, the exact opposite of what IMHO their direction ought to be. Should another such internment become necessary, it will be for the good of the Republic as the previous one was.
HUH?
That is simply factually incorrect. Allah is Arabic for "God" much like Yahweh and Jehovah are Hebrew for the same term.
Your opinion is not backed by evidence of any kind, but you're certainly entitled to it.
