A major terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight has been disrupted by police, Scotland Yard says.
It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled on board aircraft in hand luggage.
During the night, police arrested a number of people in London after a counter-terrorist operation they said had lasted several months.
Police believe the attacks would have been particularly targeted at flights from the UK to the US.
The Department for Transport said security at all UK airports has been increased.
Passengers on all flights will not be allowed to take any hand luggage on to any flights in the UK.
Only the barest essentials - including passports and wallets - will be allowed to be carried on board in transparent plastic bags.

I'd like the contract to sell items aboard aircraft to entertain the passengers.<<
If they stop parents from carrying on diaper bags you could probably get $100 for a disposable diaper - from the surrounding business men, if not from the parents. :)

Electronics have been barred from going in the passenger compartment for now In other news, 1)the TSA has reported that it needs to install more bandwidth for its employee work stations and 2)eBay's offerings of cell phones, PDAs, and laptop computers have tripled.

Hayworth's guest, congressman Ernest Iztuk candidate for Gov. from Ok., now talking about border security. I guess they realize that MS 13 has been bringing terror types across the border for $5,000 a piece for several years now.

As per the guy on Sky News, he was talking about three or more people getting on a plane and carrying components of an explosive mixture. That would explain why things like tissues and other odd things are being banned. Might just be the ingredients for their old standby, "The Mother of Satan".
They'd use the tissues to filter the precipitate, probably in the toilet, and as soon as it dried, impact alone could detonate the stuff. Plenty of time on an overseas flight.

No electrical or battery powered items including laptops, mobile phones, ipods, remote controls etc can be carried in the cabin and must be checked as baggage. If al-Qaeda did not exist, Lightfingers Klepto in the baggage handling departments would have to invent it.

And the National Guard on the ground will thwart an airborne terrorist how? The terrorist has to be on the ground before he is airborne.

As I recall, most of the folks working at that airport that I came into contact with were rude. After all, it is Massachusetts, my friend.
To: Rutles4Ever
I would assume there will be increased scrutiny of passengers and baggage coming in. This would likely cause larger lines and more people management. If the guard is able to take over some routine duties it would free up other personnel for the work of screening bags and people.
If Romney did nothing and there occurs huge delays at the airport, how long before someone questions his response? If they end up doing nothing then no harm.
