"It could be that at the end of the story, Lebanon will be dark for a few years," said one.

Either Israel expands into Southern Lebanon, permanently, or the war continues. I believe the crusades were the proper model for this, more so than just democratization.

but we will also hit strategic civilian infrastructure."

What does that accomplish? I would suggest that IDF hit military targets, and take ground to interdict new missile launchers from coming in some time in the future. What I am just pounding the keyboard.

I read in the Jerusalem Post the IDF is putting plans to push through to the Litani on hold again. Apparently, Israel is waiting to see whether anything comes out of the UN. I keep wondering though why the Israeli government thinks waiting for Godot is a good idea.

I wouldn't be in favor of destroying any more infrastructure in Lebanon.

We just won an historic battle in Lebanon by getting the Lebanese to kick the Syrians out (with a little help from us) and join the democratic world.

Hezbollah would have been next in several years after the Lebanese get more on their feet. I would hate it if Hezbollah and Iran and Syria caused this situation only so that the clock gets turned back in Lebanon.

I think the only solution now is for Israel to go full bore into southern Lebanon and push Hezbollah out (will be large casualities.)

But at the same time, the US needs to send a message to Iran and Syria by bombing their military infrastructure back into the stone age (or at least, their WMD infrastructure.)

Iran has got to pay a price for this because so far it looks like they are getting away with it scot-free while at the same time taking the world's attention off thier nuclear program.

I think it should be Damascus that's dark.

Sounds good to me. And while you're at it, close off the northern border between Syria and Lebanon.

The Lebanese govt has thrown in its lot with the Hezbozos, and now their population will pay the price.

Israel waited quite a while to do this, essentially waiting until they had no choice.

With Lebanon "dark", perhaps other populations in the region will "get the joke". In any case, it's awful hard to fight a war when you don't have power, water, food or supply lines.

Israel should take all water and electrical power throughout the country. Every government office and building should be destroyed beyond repair. Let them all run into to Syrai for protection, and then do the same to Syria. They will get the message, fast

Question ... why is this general (1) giving an interview, (2) outlining targets that they are planning to bomb?

This guy should STFU. There should be no statements from ANY military members who are involved in the war. If asked anything from ANY journalist, the answer should be "No Comment".

' "It could be that at the end of the story, Lebanon will be dark for a few years," said one. '

When the populace generally supports Hezbollah, then a few weeks/months/years without electricity & running water should cure them of that support. It may take a while, it may not.

When terrorists make it to power with defacto support from the public at large (Gaza, Lebanon), thereby departing the civilized world, the amenities of the civilized world need to be promptly removed so that said public can reflect on their poor choices in hunger and darkness.

Eventually their thinking will become more rational.

A senior General Staff officer told Haaretz that for the first time since the fighting began, Israel plans to attack strategic infrastructure targets and symbols of the Lebanese government

That won't do a stinking thing to stop attacks on Israel. Lebanon is powerless to do anything, heck they are majority moslem, they don't want to do anything either. This sounds like the IDF is frustrated. And that is because they are KGC (Kinder Gentler Compassionate)warfighting.

The senior General Staff should be saying...

"Israel plans to eliminate strategic infrastructure targets and symbols of the Iranian and Syrian governments"

I think this is counterproductive and lame. The IDF should conquer southern Lebanon and the Bekaa. If Tel Aviv is hit. Lob a missile into Damascus and Qom.

Pounding the few sane elements of Lebanon into the stone age is absurd. This reminds of Clinton bombing Belgrade.

When the so called "army of god" is civilian, what choice does any nation other than to respond agressively against the nation that harbors the so called civilian terrorists?

Seems like the heart of Hizbullah is Iran. Take out their electrical grids and bring that outlaw regime to its knees. Do it now before they can get the bomb.
