STOYSTOWN, Pa. -- It was a remarkable shot that produced a one-of-a-kind image: a green pasture, red barns in the distance and, against a brilliant blue and cloudless sky, a lone mushroom cloud of dark gray smoke.
Taken the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, seconds after United Airlines Flight 93 plunged into a nearby field, the eerie photo was, and still is, according to the FBI, the closest thing it's got to an image of the crash itself.
Val McClatchey snapped the single picture with her new digital camera. The wife and mother had been sitting on the edge of her sofa, clutching her second cup of coffee and watching the smoking towers of the World Trade Center on TV, when she heard the sudden surge of a plane engine, followed by a violent, house-shaking boom. Mrs. McClatchey grabbed the camera and ran onto the front porch of her house along Indian Lake.
"I didn't even aim. I was just like, 'Oh, my God,' " she said. She dropped the camera, jolting the battery loose, then tried in vain to call her husband, son and daughter. She had no idea what she'd captured until the state police put a call out to people in the area, asking for photos, debris and other evidence. She took a printout of her photo to the police, she said, and, within an hour, FBI agents were at her house.
Once the full, national scope of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks had settled in, word spread quickly of Mrs. McClatchey's photograph, and soon, everyone wanted to buy a copy.
"But it's not something that felt right," she said.

The article mentions that she's currently involved in a lawsuit against the AP whom she claims distributed the photo w/out her permission.Could AP be behind the harassment?
as you can clearly see from the enhance image it is the cowardly lion and the wicked witch of the west.
"Pay no attention to that man behind the red barn."
I see Helen Thomas. It's possible I'm spending too much time on FR.
Looks like a Muslim to me.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, you're right, G! Now I see him!!
The only reason these conspiracy freaks are upset is because in their little twisted world of hate, they were hoping against hope that Flight 93 might have made it to wherever President Bush was, and killed him.
And if they couldn't have a dead George W. Bush, they would have settled for a dead Dick Cheney.
Remember these conspiracy fanatics are, at their core, NOT motivated by any desire to search for and find "truth", they are motivated by pure and simple HATE.
And BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome) has damn well been demonstrated to be something real, if you've been even paying casual attention to the moonbats and the 'Rats these past 6 years.
Have you considered running for elective office?
Because my FRiend?
You damn sure have MY vote!!!!
That's Fred Barnes, please.
Dead right. The week after 9-11, I checked out David Irving's blog. He was already spinning the tale that United 93 was shot down by a US fighter jet. I still wonder if these nuts aren't funded by Islamists.
I'm certainly no psychologist, but when people have such a burning need to blame terrorist acts perpetrated on this country on "inside job"s, that must be indicative of some kind of psychosis. It's definitely sick.
My guess, while close to yours, is that this is the left's LAME attempt to get the focus OFF of the Reuters photoshop scandal.
Maybe, but it was pointed out to me at post #24 that this thing was hatched before the Reuter's scandal (I neglected to actually read the article...), but it still could have been released when that scandal came to light for that purpose.
Everytime a real picture that captures something different than what the moonbats have been preaching/screaming/lying about...they ALWAY SAY IT'S PHOTOSHOPPED....ALWAYS...I've learned to ignore all of them....they just keep getting more and more looney....I've concluded they've actually gone off the deep end...
I can't run for office here in Ohio. I question the leadership of the republican party. I've been declared "not loyal"...
I think it looks like Helen Thomas.
Except a lot of people fall for it - websites and magazines wouldn't photoshop celebs if they didn't! ;)
